This book will take you through the Journey of understanding, managing and living with Pompe. When I met Mary Jay, I must say I felt that there was everything wrong about her. She was only four and a half years, with her glasses at the end of her nose and her head back a lot. She didn’t have much control on her legs or hands which made it very difficult for her to climb up the stairs. She was at the reception class and the school employed a special person from a specific agency to stay with her. Sadly, no one else wanted to work with her, presumably more because of the fear of the unknown rather than spite. Actually, it was scary as she had tubes all over her. This, as I got to learn, was to help in the feeding and breathing too. I thought she was a very sick child but I did not understand what she suffering from then. My assumption is the larger population was as much in the dark as I was. It gives me a feeling of fulfillment having to shed more light on what Mary Jay is suffering from and how better she is doing at the moment because of the support she received. This is going to be a comprehensive journey through the disease known as Pompe. By the end of it, you will not only understand more about the disease and how it comes about but also the management and how best we can improve the life of those that live with the disease. I will take Mary Jay through this journey with us so that you can associate more on the specific things that I will be trying to discuss. I believe that it will be one of the most educative and informative journeys that you will have taken in a long time.

In this book, Jenny dos Reis explains a comprehensive and thoughtful analysis of the serious, lifelong difficulties facing families of children with severe disabilities particularly Pompe, with emphasis on interaction and support within their communities. This book is fully illustrated and written in a way that all the readers can understand. Moreover, I really like how the book is presented in an overall tone which is encouraging and supportive which is very significant for parents who are concerned about their children.I recommend this book to anyone seeking to understand special needs families. It will definitely provide a wealth of information and will be a wonderful resource for children, particularly children with Pompe, their parents, teachers, carers and siblings.

How is this book unique?

Formatted for E-Readers, Unabridged & Original version. You will find it much more comfortable to read on your device/app. Easy on your eyes. Includes: 15 Colored Illustrations and Biography On the Origin of Species, published on 24 November 1859, is a work of scientific literature by Charles Darwin which is considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology. Its full title was On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life. In the 1872 sixth edition "On" was omitted, so the full title is The origin of species by means of natural selection, or the preservation of favoured races in the struggle for life. This edition is usually known as The Origin of Species. Darwin's book introduced the scientific theory that populations evolve over the course of generations through a process of natural selection. It presented a body of evidence that the diversity of life arose by common descent through a branching pattern of evolution. Darwin included evidence that he had gathered on the Beagle expedition in the 1830s and his subsequent findings from research, correspondence, and experimentation. Various evolutionary ideas had already been proposed to explain new findings in biology. There was growing support for such ideas among dissident anatomists and the general public, but during the first half of the 19th century the English scientific establishment was closely tied to the Church of England, while science was part of natural theology. Ideas about the transmutation of species were controversial as they conflicted with the beliefs that species were unchanging parts of a designed hierarchy and that humans were unique, unrelated to other animals. The political and theological implications were intensely debated, but transmutation was not accepted by the scientific mainstream. The book was written for non-specialist readers and attracted widespread interest upon its publication. As Darwin was an eminent scientist, his findings were taken seriously and the evidence he presented generated scientific, philosophical, and religious discussion. The debate over the book contributed to the campaign by T. H. Huxley and his fellow members of the X Club to secularise science by promoting scientific naturalism. Within two decades there was widespread scientific agreement that evolution, with a branching pattern of common descent, had occurred, but scientists were slow to give natural selection the significance that Darwin thought appropriate. During "the eclipse of Darwinism" from the 1880s to the 1930s, various other mechanisms of evolution were given more credit. With the development of the modern evolutionary synthesis in the 1930s and 1940s, Darwin's concept of evolutionary adaptation through natural selection became central to modern evolutionary theory, and it has now become the unifying concept of the life sciences.

On The Origin Of Species: Color Illustrated, Formatted for E-Readers (Unabridged Version), by Charles Darwin

Amazon.com Review It's hard to talk about The Origin of Species without making statements that seem overwrought and fulsome. But it's true: this is indeed one of the most important and influential books ever written, and it is one of the very few groundbreaking works of science that is truly readable.

To a certain extent it suffers from the Hamlet problem--it's full of clichés! Or what are now clichés, but which Darwin was the first to pen. Natural selection, variation, the struggle for existence, survival of the fittest: it's all in here.

Darwin's friend and "bulldog" T.H. Huxley said upon reading the Origin, "How extremely stupid of me not to have thought of that." Alfred Russel Wallace had thought of the same theory of evolution Darwin did, but it was Darwin who gathered the mass of supporting evidence--on domestic animals and plants, on variability, on sexual selection, on dispersal--that swept most scientists before it. It's hardly necessary to mention that the book is still controversial: Darwin's remark in his conclusion that "Light will be thrown on the origin of man and his history" is surely the pinnacle of British understatement. --Mary Ellen Curtin

From Publishers Weekly Starred Review. Originally published in 1859, Darwin's revolutionary idea is revisited in this spirited and profoundly enthralling reading by Professor Richard Dawkins, who in reading Darwin's material aloud manages to rediscover old ideas and unearth some dramatic subtleties in his prose. Dawkins offers a well-pronounced, pitch-perfect delivery and smartly never attempts to turn the reading into a performance from Darwin's point of view. Instead, Dawkins delivers the material from his own context as a modern-day interpreter of the classical work. Dawkins also splendidly adapts this abridgment, leaving out sections of Darwin's original theories that have been discredited by modern science. Dawkins says he believes his alterations are what Darwin himself would have wished for the recording, and the final result is an absolutely astounding glimpse into life as we know it. (Aug.) Review "Endersby has faithfully edited the first edition of Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species, with footnotes elucidating the book's critical portions. His informative 57-page introduction examines the Origin from the perspective of how the book was received by Victorian readers....Scholars in natural history and the history of science will welcome this work." --Choice

BEWARE the copy with intro by Comfort By Caraleisa The original book by Charles Darwin is a classic that should be on everyone's reading list. There are ample reviews here which address it, praise it, and I am completely in agreement with them. Darwin's Origin of Species is a true masterpiece.Unfortunately, this review is to help readers/buyers realize that there is a 'vandalized' version which has been published, and to tell you how to avoid it and get the real thing. To explain; there is yet another edition also called "The Origin of Species, 150th Anniversary Edition", put out by Christian Fundamentalist Ray Comfort in an attempt to discredit evolutionary theory and Charles Darwin, and it has some extra 50 pages of unintelligible drivel about creationism, as well as having ABRIDGED Darwin's original text. If you want to read about creationism, find another book... if you want the facts, read ALL of what Darwin has to say, and please don't give any money to Comfort by accidentally buying his ABRIDGED version.Note that he used the EXACT same name as the 'real' anniversary edition -- "The Origin Of Species: 150th Anniversary Edition by Charles Darwin". You can easily tell which version you're getting by who wrote the introduction - go with Julian Huxley, NOT Ray Comfort, and you'll have the correct and complete version. Also, note that Amazon reviews are mixed between the books (normally not a problem at all) - I hope they are straightening this out, but currently that's not the case. Sadly, the negative reviews of the Comfort version are bringing down the rating of the 'good/real' book.Sorry to have to write about the 'drama', but I'm sure you want to know that you have ordered the correct book, and I know you'll love it.Enjoy.

This is the sixth edition of the Origin of Species By John Salerno My four-star rating is more for this particular product than for the work of Darwin itself. Clearly Darwin's book is the cornerstone of modern biology, and I won't even pretend to try to rate its importance using one to five stars. However, I felt it was important to let people know that this is the *sixth* edition of the book. I ordered it thinking it was the first, although I admit I had no reason to believe that other than that it did not specify that it was any other edition. The main problem with later editions is that Darwin continually responded to his critics in subsequent editions, thus changing some aspects of his theory. He also added the obnoxious concession "by the Creator" to his beautiful final sentence in order to appease the religious critics. The sixth (final) edition even has an extra chapter in response to criticisms by Catholic biologist George Mivart (which chapter is present in this edition, thus proving it is the sixth edition). The benefit to later editions would be that they contain minor corrections to the writing, as well as these answers to objections and criticism, but at the same time I don't feel that Darwin's answers needed to be added to the book itself. "The Origin" should simply present his theory (as the first edition does) and he could easily have answered his critics in other ways and not by editing the actual theory itself. But to reiterate my main point, I am not reviewing the actual work of Darwin. I am posting this review to inform people of which edition they are getting with this particular book, because I wish I had known in advance.Edit: I should add that the copy I received did not have the same cover as what is displayed here. My copy shows a bird, a wildcat, and a dolphin on the cover. The cover shown on the product page at the time of writing is of a ship. However, my copy is still the 150th Anniversary Edition (Signet Classics) with an introduction by Julian Huxley.

A Sham - Half the number of pages as the legitimate version, critical content omitted By Mitch Scott I have to admit, I'm astonished by the ease with which one can be fooled into thinking they've procured the full and legitimate content of Darwin's signature work. A couple of easy clues, though:Darwin refers in this version to a diagram in chapter IV, to illustrate "The Probable Effects of the Process of Natural Selection Through Divergence of Character and Extinction, On the Descendants of a Common Ancestor." This diagram is absent in this version, and this absence is what started me on the road to identifying this version as a fraud. I began to search for other editions of "Origins" to see if they included the diagram. And that search found not only that most versions did contain the diagram, but that the full text of this work ran to over 550 pages - twice as many as are included in this version.I should also have known better than to have procured a free version. You truly do get what you pay for.Be aware, as you look for a reliable version of the work, that there are many fraudulent versions out there. I won't go into detail on this, as this review concerns this specific version. But I can say that I've purchased a version that I am satisfied is a faithful rendering of the complete content. The ISBN number is 978-0-451-52906-0. It's the 150th anniversary edition, with an introduction by Julian Huxley. Still, don't take my word for it, and do your own due diligence. There is another "150th anniversary" version with an introduction by Ray Comfort, who is a Christian prothselitizer. So be careful.Hopefully this will prevent you from having to start reading the work again from the beginning, as I've had to do. But I'm glad to have figured it out and separated fact from fiction.

In Augustus Does His Bit, Shaw again pokes fun at the smug British upper classes, which are incompetently represented by Lord Augustus Highcastle. Lord Highcastle commands a military base in a small British town during World War I where he is determined to do his part to defeat the Hun. This one act play succeeds not only as a witty comedy full of one-liners, but also as a surprisingly good farce.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A very funny one act play By Israel Drazin This one act comedy, written by George Bernard Shaw during the First World War, was praised during its day, but is not widely known now. Virtually every event in the play is hilarious. Lord Augustus Highcastle, a colonel in the English army, is 45 years old. He is the scion of a prestigious family with officials in both the English and German governments. He is a fool and any who meets him can see it. In fact the Germans once captured him when he foolhardily advanced against them. The Germans released him within an hour because they figured that it would better serve their interests if Augustus remained in the English fighting forces. Some English people similarly said that since Augustus was on the job, England needed an additional million soldiers to protect the homeland. The play pocks fun at the war and the way that the English administration is handling it. The plot focuses upon Augustus having a secret document showing how the English placed their guns. A woman decides to steal the document from Augustus to show what a fool he is, and the play shows how she does so. While the play is not fashionable, it is a delight to read.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. satirical short comedy By Goddess of Blah Book Reviews Characters within play:1. Lord Augustus Highcastle (aka Gus)2. The Clark: Mr Horatio Floyd Beamish3. A LadyCharacters mentioned (but do not make an appearance)1. Lord Hungerford Highcastle (aka Blueloo, Gus's brother)2. The Honorable Lucy Popham (Gus's fiance)Location: Mayor's parlour in the Town Hall of Little Pifflington, 1916.synopsis: Lord Augustus Highcastle, a distinguished member of the governing class, reveals to his secretary his acute sense of the seriousness of the war and of his own important relation to the winning thereof. He has just received information that a woman spy is seeking to obtain possession of a state paper which is in his custody. Just then, an attractive lady visitor is ushered into his office. She has to speak to him urgently ...Augustus: Imagine a mild Hooray Henry, posh, affable and lacking grey matter. A patriotic Hugh Grant character with a military airs. This is Augustus. He belongs to the governing class and thus he has managed to secure military prestige (his uniform is that of a Colonel) despite having disobeyed orders (there are hints this caused grave danger) and disclosing information of military strategy to a high ranking Prussian (all done unintentionally). He doesn't appear to understand why he's in disgrace, however, he blames the new "socialist" government in power - accusing these politicians of prejudice and launching a campaign against the upper echelons of society. It's due to all his family members (despite their close connections to the Germans - Gus has 3 German Brother inlaws who are high ranking German military personnel). No one, including the enemy takes him seriously. Some hold him in contempt (this possibly extends to his fiancee) while others (such as his family) appear to consider him a joke. The play is satirical political and social comedy that laughs at society, the English and an undemocratic government (universal suffrage so forth- not that it "votes" have stopped the govt from taking us to war). It insinuates how the Governing (aristocracy) took us to war against Germany (WWI), while the ordinary Englishmen had no quarrel with the Huns. It's witty (the dialogue between The Clark and Gus is witty and provides brilliant satirical political and social observations that manifest the inequitable position of the working class and the stupidity of war).Quotes:AUGUSTUS. This is too silly for anything. This town wants waking up. I made the best recruiting speech I ever made in my life; and not a man joined.THE CLERK. What did you expect? You told them our gallant fellows is falling at the rate of a thousand a day in the big push. Dying for Little Pifflington, you says. Come and take their places, you says. That ain't the way to recruit.AUGUSTUS. But I expressly told them their widows would have pensions.THE CLERK. I heard you. Would have been all right if it had been the widows you wanted to get round.AUGUSTUS [rising angrily]. This town is inhabited by dastards. I say it with a full sense of responsibility, DASTARDS! They call themselves Englishmen; and they are afraid to fight.THE CLERK. Afraid to fight! You should see them on a Saturday night.AUGUSTUS. Yes, they fight one another; but they won't fight the Germans.THE CLERK. They got grudges again one another: how can they have grudges again the Huns that they never saw? They've no imagination: that's what it is. Bring the Huns here; and they'll quarrel with them fast enough.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. very useful and practical information for a great resume By A. Pullen This book goes through all the necessary steps to make a great looking resume. I didn't realise how bad my resume was until I read some of the tips outlined here. It goes through highlighting the basic information that is critical for every resume, some examples were how to format your email and using bullet points to summarise instead of writing long sentences. The book goes in depth about an "objective statement" and how that differs from resume profile statements. I found the most valuable chapter was on how to make your work experience stand out, as I always find it difficult to know what to or not to write. Lastly the book covers how to format your education section and minor tips on references.

By Burley This book was full of many useful nuggets of information that I shouldn't just now be discovering this late in my career. The examples of a good "objective statement" and a "profile statement" were most helpful, and so was how to decide between the two. I was unaware that some companies may use "recruiting management software" so using keywords could be to your advantage. The book highlights the importance of adding "tales of tangible accomplishments," saying that employers love them. How to change a negative, something like not finishing your degree, into a positive is a clever strategy. An all-around educational read.

It teaches you a vital information on how to make your resume right and to stand out from a pile of other resumes. Inside this book you will find advices on how to write each section of your resume, including some very useful tips to make your resume be noticeable, so you have more chances to get a job. Highly recommended!

Quest of the Golden Ape, by Stephen Marlowe

About the Author Stephen Marlowe (1928-2008) was the author of more than fifty novels, including nearly two dozen featuring globe-trotting private eye Chester Drum. Born Milton Lesser, Marlowe was raised in Brooklyn and attended the College of William and Mary. After several years writing science fiction under his given name, he legally adopted his pen name, and began focusing on Chester Drum, the Washington-based detective who first appeared in "The Second Longest Night" (1955). Although a private detective akin to Raymond Chandler's characters, Drum was distinguished by his jet-setting lifestyle, which carried him to various exotic locales from Mecca to South America. These espionage-tinged stories won Marlowe acclaim, and he produced more than one a year before ending the series in 1968. After spending the 1970s writing suspense novels like "The Summit" (1970) and "The Cawthorn Journals" (1975), Marlowe turned to scholarly historical fiction. He lived much of his life abroad, in Switzerland, Spain, and France, and died in Virginia in 2008.

Tarth (not an anagram) returns to peace and prosperity By SGL Apon a certain night - the date of which remains vague-Bram awakens, in a chamber, in a mansion, in the middle of the forest after 100 years. There to greet him is John Pride, a fourth generation lawyer from the firm of Pride, Conrad and Wilson. Unfortunately after all this time there is no longer any Conrads or Wilsons . Bram awakens with apparently little in the way on knowledge of his situation or memories of it. With what little the lawyer is able to impart and the small rectangular box given to him , he must sort out a life for himself. He does have the memory of a poem though, which goes something like."An ape, a boar, a stallion,A land beyond the stars.A virgin forest, a raging beast,a prison without bars."It is a great story rich in details , characters and imagination! One of his best works!

Wrong author, tedious quest tale By MamaSylvia First, according to web pages listing his work, the correct author should be: Garrett, Randall & Lesser, Milton as Chase, AdamE-novella downloaded free from Gutenberg. A being from another planet springs into life on Earth and seeks his destiny, while those who destroyed his nation on his planet worry about someone pursuing revenge.I could not get into this story at all. I'm not a fan of quests or finding-out-who-you-are stories anyway, and this didn't seem like a particularly good example anyway; the writing and characters all seemed dreadfully self-conscious, and the back-and-forth between Earth and the other planet and characters felt disjointed. Garrett has written some excellent stories; read them and skip this one.

Excellent compilation of research on leadership By b. w. evans I found this to be an excellent compilation from a variety of authors on the subject of leadership. Current research is included as well as relevant information from classical studies. This book would be of value to students of leadership, or faculty members looking for a current compilation of research to use for undergraduate/graduate leadership courses.

Every Leader should read this book By Catrina Jones The approaches to the different leadership styles as presented by Dr. Matta and Dr. Washington can be readily adopted by any leader of a non-government, government, private and non-profit organization. I especially valued the perspective of this reading that leadership should be viewed as a collective effort involving both the leader and the follower. Business leadership courses have focused primarily on conflict resolution, team building, and ethics, and have placed less emphasis on leadership styles. This chapter on Leadership and Technology Adoption have expanded my view on how leadership and its effectiveness is heavily centered on how well one can influence and build relationships with others.

News from Nowhere (1890) is a classic work combining utopian socialism and soft science fiction written by the artist, designer and socialist pioneer William Morris. In the book, the narrator, William Guest, falls asleep after returning from a meeting of the Socialist League and awakes to find himself in a future society based on common ownership and democratic control of the means of production. In this society there is no private property, no big cities, no authority, no monetary system, no divorce, no courts, no prisons, and no class systems. This agrarian society functions simply because the people find pleasure in nature, and therefore they find pleasure in their work. The book explores a number of aspects of this society, including its organisation and the relationships which it engenders between people. News from Nowhere, by William Morris

Review As usual, Oxford publications are always of top quality. This edition is a thoroughly fine piece of scholarship, well-structured and presented.

From the Back Cover

Written in 1890, at the close of William Morris’s most intense period of political activism, News from Nowhere is a compelling articulation of his mature views on art, work, community, family, and the nature and structure of the ideal society. A utopian narrative of a future society, it is also an immensely entertaining novel.

This Broadview edition includes a wide variety of contextualizing documents, including portions of Morris’s essays, lectures, and journalism; excerpts from precursor utopian texts; writings on Bloody Sunday, art, work, and revolution; and contemporary reviews.

About the Author About the Author: "William Morris (March 24, 1834 - October 3, 1896) was an English artist, writer, and socialist. He was one of the principal founders of the British Arts and Crafts movement, a pioneer of the socialist movement in Britain, and a writer of poetry and fiction. He is perhaps best known as a designer of wallpaper and patterned fabrics.Born on his family's estate of Elm House in Walthamstow, he went to school at Marlborough College, but left in 1851 after a student rebellion there. He then went to Exeter College, Oxford after studying for his matriculation to the university. He became influenced by the work of art and social critic John Ruskin while there." 11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. William Morris' futuristic utopia based on Medieval ideals By Lawrance Bernabo William Morris is best known for his involvement in the Pre-Raphaelite movement and as one of the greatest European pattern-designers since the Middle Ages. He was also a campaigning socialist, a pioneering environmentalist, and a lyric poet, as well as a journalist and a storyteller with a penchant for making his dreams reality. Much of his prose writings focused on the theme of an earthly paradise, which is the subject of "News from Nowhere." First published in serial form in the "Commonweal" in 1890, this novella offers Morris' ideal future for England as a pastoral society born out of revolution. A true utopian vision of the future, it is largely forgotten in comparison to the dramatic dystopian works such as "Brave New World" and "Nineteen Eighty-Four," which have dominated the interest of scholars and students."News from Nowhere, or, An Epoch of Rest: being some chapters from a Utopian Romance" tells the story of a young Englishman who goes to bed one night in his London home and wakes up in a strange world where his "neighbors" talk about the year 2001 as thought it had happened in the past. Morris depicts an England where radical changes have altered not only the way things look but the key elements of the society, which is now structured according to the ideals of communism. This means a world without money or private property but with a perfect equality between all citizens who share in the daily labor. In addition to these common features of a utopian society, Morris argues that labor would be regarded as a pleasure rather than as a chore. This is possible because in the ideal world Morris envisions every citizen does the job that matches their skills and is able to take pride in the fruit of their labors. Consequently, for Morris "work" is more akin to "art," specifically in terms of the Medieval idea of individual workmanship, where even the production of a dish was celebrated as an art form. Towards this end Morris creates a future where humanity has eliminated all but the simplest forms of machinery, forcing a reliance on the individual skins of the workman. Even the city of London becomes a collection of villages in this post-industrial utopia. At one point an old man who had studied the revolution explains what happened, which is where "News from Nowhere" gives Morris the opportunity to comment on the injustices he perceives in his own society. The revolution came when the conflict between workers and the state became violent. Unions had banded together in larger organizations and when the establishment ordered unarmed protesters to be gunned down and the workers decided to fight back. In many ways the story Morris tells through his character clearly predicts some of the conflicts that would take place between labor and the state around the world in the decades to come, but there is also a strong affinity with the story of the French Revolution.Ultimately, "News from Nowhere" is a combination of Morris' ideal of the Medieval workman as a happy artisan and his socialist beliefs. The irony for utopian scholarship is that while Morris was prompted by "Looking Backward" to write "News from Nowhere" as a refutation of Bellamy's reliance on the modern institutions of technology and complex organizations, but today the two works are seen as being kindred spirits because they both predict a brighter future for humanity. Still, it is became Morris is looking backward from the end of the 19th century to the past to find the ideal state that should be achieved in the future, that "News From Nowhere" is one of the most atypical examples of utopian literature.

Talking to folks who want to see corporate America and Wall Street disappear, those big on locally sourced food, downgrading the influence of technology, trying to reinspire and tesurrect the arts and artistry of craftsmanship, they definitely would appreciate this world view.As is often the case, however, capturing the dream is so much easier than making it happen in the real world. Morris at least acknowledged that in order for this new reality to emerge, civil disorder, economic deprivation and even civil war would be required. It is, however, a chilling reminder that asks the questions, "What would you sacrifice for change?" "What would the status quo actually do?" "How many people would die to get an ideal future?" William Morris wrote in the late 1800s but was primarily known for his stunning graphic designs, wallpapers and other artwork. Art and living one's life in artistic and creative ways was clearly something he valued highly, and it shows. While the writing feels a bit stodgy in our era, it's a great story with a lot of concepts to ponder.

I already have a home based business (tiny as it is) and still found value that can be applied immediately. Having a degree in business, I am typically harsher on books like this because they generally leave some very important information out (like taxes!). I did not find anything lacking in this very clear and concise ebook. The things I appreciated the most about it was how it gave information in plain language and there wasn't any extra hype or extra stuff just to fill pages (like forms that you will never use). The thing that impressed me the most was the realistic ideas given for various micro and cottage businesses.

The pulse of rock’n’roll—the drummer—finally gets its due in this unique, all-encompassing inside look at the history, artists, instruments, and culture of drumming.

Beating the hell out of a drum kit is hard, sweaty, demanding work. Yet instead of being showered with respect, drummers are often viewed with derision—stereotyped as crazy, borderline psychotic, or just plain dumb. But as every musician knows, to have a great band you need a great drummer: Ginger Baker. John Bonham. Chad Smith. Stewart Copeland. Lars Ulrich. Neil Peart.

For the first time, journalist Tony Barrell shines a long overdue spotlight on these musicians, offering an exciting look into their world, their art, and their personalities. In Born to Drum, Barrell explores the extraordinary history of the world’s most primitive instrument and the musicians who have made it legend. He interviews some of the most famous and revered and well-known drummers of our time—including Chad Smith, Ginger Baker, Clem Burke, Sheila E, Phil Collins, Nick Mason, Patty Schemel, Butch Vig, and Omar Hakim—who share astonishing truths about their work and lives. He investigates the stories of late, great drummers such as Keith Moon and John Bonham, analyzes many of the greatest drum tracks ever recorded, and introduces us to the world’s fastest drummer, the world’s loudest drummer, and the first musician to pilot a “flying drum kit” on stage.

Fascinating and filled with little known details, Born to Drum elevates drummers and their achievements to their rightful place in the culture of the world.

Born to Drum By Marablaise Born to Drum takes an inside look at the history, artists, instruments and culture of drummers. This book was deeply fascinating to read even though I didn't recognize many names in this book. That is one thing I found quite peculiar that I knew of many bands and never knew the drummers name. I started reading this book thinking that hopefully I would about Phil Collins and Roger Taylor (of Queen not Duran Duran) and I got what I wished for and so much more. There was so much information here, anecdotes, interesting theories (no not all the drummers are batshit crazy like Keith Moon lol) and I learned a lot. It was interesting to read about women who drums, a subject I knew very, very little about and as I'm a bit morbid did I like reading about drummers that died or almost died because of drugs and alcohol. Don't take drugs and drive if you are a drummer btw!Another thing I found very interesting besides everything I learned in this book is how I listen to music while and after I read the book, suddenly I'm listening to drums in a whole new way. I have always liked drums, but now old songs feel like new songs when I listen to the drums...I recommend this book to all music nerds out there!4.5 stars

The other 10% was in a class WAY beyond my drumming life, the famous, the drugs and all of that. This is a very good read for drummers of all ages and continents. After each chapter I would reflect on my drumming world and it just clicked.."Yes I did that" ! Although some of the English drummers were unknown to me..the story is the same...no matter where you are from. My drumming world like most in this story began shortly after 1964 as well and it seemed that Tony was interviewing me as well.

It's not about who's the best player By Sharon Kershner I've been a professional drummer for over 24 years and I think this book is great! It's not about who's the best player, or who's made the most money doing it.. It's about what it means to be a drummer and the nuances that surround dedicating yourself to the instrument.
