Good life lesson By Michael Mitch An interesting title but this book has good life lesson on self improvement such as staying focus and sticking to your wants, putting more value in yourself and ability. Overall it was a short read but I enjoyed the motivation when reading this book as I feel more satisfied.

About the Author Geoff Hohwald began playing banjo in 1964 in Columbus, Ohio which was a "hot bed of bluegrass at the time. While there Geoff studied banjo under John Hickman. He performed with many other great musicians there including Bill Monroe s last two guitar players Tom Ewing and Wayne Lewis, Other Musicians that Geoff played with in the Columbus area were Red Allen, Sandy Rothman, Sid Campbell., Dave Evans , Frank Wakefield, Hylo Brown, Buddy Thomas, The Fields Brothers, Landon Messer, Earl Taylor and Brian Aldridge. Since coming to Atlanta Geoff has played with Bear Creek in Underground Atlanta, at the Alliance Theatre for the Robber Bridegroom, with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra, and is one of the founding members of the Greater Atlanta Bluegrass Band. Geoff is mostly known around the country for his banjo teaching materials which are sold world wide. He has been collecting vintage instruments for years and has owned or played all of the classic bluegrass instruments and has helped many musicians in the southeast area obtain classic instruments.

By Eagle Vision I have been learning to play the banjo for about 4 weeks, and I have made rapid progress through the techniques in the book. The DVD helps the learner by playing segments of songs in progressively faster speeds. Each song in the first half of the book describes the proper techniques and allows the student to learn parts of each song, before proceeding.The video is high quality and easy to understand.I had to buy a music stand to play while reading the notes. It's a great book on techniques, though it's short on music theory, such as specifics of the Fretboard, scales, and such. However, it gave me a great head start as I learn more and more from other teachers, methods, and books.Highly recommend.

I would just say, DO get the edition with the DVD and CDs, as they make the whole process of getting started much, much easier, and really do add to the textual explanations. By retrob I started to learn to play the banjo, Scruggs style, several months back from watching various instructors and videos on the internet. It was very difficult and frustrating to try to find an instructor that I liked and had faith in. Many video instructors just feed one enough information to get your interest in order that you buy their banjo instruction course or product. I was hesitant to sign-up for instructions that could potentially end-up costing hundreds of dollars. I had seen Geoff's free video instructions, but again was hesitant to purchase any of his products. I was trying to learn Cripple Creek when I saw a video where a person played a 2nd break to the song which I had not seen before in any tablature. The person playing in the video wrote that he had learned to play that version of Cripple Creek with 1st and 2nd breaks from Geoff Hohwald's Banjo Primer. When I saw that Banjo Primer Deluxe included a book, a DVD and 2 CD's to play along with, for about the cost of a 3 pk. of banjo strings, I ordered it. I've been practicing following Geoff's instruction for about 2 weeks and have made great progress, while working to correct problems in my technique I had unknowingly developed. Geoff is clear and precise in his instruction to get one off on the right track!

About the Author

Gabriel Campanario is a staff artist at The Seattle Times and the founder of Urban Sketchers (www.urbansketchers.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the art of on-location drawing. Campanario's newspaper column, Seattle Sketcher, was awarded first place for blog writing in "The Best of the West" journalism contest. The blog and weekly print column, which combine location sketches and written stories, have quickly become popular in the Seattle area, where Campanario has been featured in TV and radio appearances. A native Spaniard, Campanario moved to the U.S. in 1998 and has lived near Seattle with his wife and two children since 2006. His journalism career spans two decades, working for newspapers in Barcelona, Lisbon, California, and Virginia. Campanario has a master's degree in journalism from the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain.

According to Wikipedia, "In the early 2000s a man or a woman with a small sketchbook and a pen or a brush were beginning to be fixtures in coffee shops, parks, streets and airports. Sketching as a practice is experiencing a renaissance; and the Urban Sketching movement is encouraging participation through word of mouth and in art classes and on-line social networking." Technically, sketching begins with lines and adds softer lines and colors, but techniques vary. Some of the hundred postcards in this box contain detailed, line-only sketches, others are full-scale artworks; my favorites use line and just a little color (frequently water colors) to pick out the most interesting highlights of the subject matter.Just as technique varies, so does subject matter: Piers and plazas and pagodas; people in cafes and at ball games, lounging and shopping. The bulk of these cards take place in urban settings full of people, but nature and architectural studies are found here too. As "dean" of the movement, Gabriel Campanario has some scenes from his book in this box, but really this is a selection of all kinds of artists from all over the world. The cards are good and thick and ideal for "Postcrossing" and other mailing purposes. The "blank" side lists artists and views. There is no dividing line between text and address fields, but that is a minor inconvenience. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Very Lovely! By Penny These postcards are lovely! I love sketches and architecture and these cards bring the two together beautifully. My one minor complaint is that some of the cards have these sharp white borders and it distracts from some of the artwork when there's this stark demarcation that obviously isn't original to the sketch. I would have preferred for the art to take up the entire card (do they not get high resolution images to turn into postcards?) or, in the case of some of the sketches that have off-white backgrounds, for the border to have been color matched to that off-white background. But I'm not a huge fan of white borders on postcards in general, so for others this might be a total non-issue and this set of postcards is actually the least offensive I've come across when it comes to borders. Many of the borders don't distract because they aren't as thick, they're the same white as the background of the sketch, or the textured edge of the artwork is maintained so the border doesn't feel like it was slapped on.Some of the sketches were photographed/scanned while still in the sketchbook, so you can see the rings or the edges of the book, and I really like that detail. I also like that there're plenty of sketches of places from the US and plenty from outside the US. I've noticed that with a lot of the postcard sets I've purchased there'll be a lot of throwaway cards, basically cards where the composition is really bad or the image is too blurred or boring to send to anyone, but there aren't any postcards from this set that I would be hesitant to use!Overall a very nice set of postcards that're well worth the money.

Like with most sets, you don't get to choose, but you do get a wide variety of cards - one each and each one unique. I guess this would only be a problem if you really like one card and you only get one. You have a large selection from line drawings to water colors. They're not in any particular order from what I can tell which is a slight issue when I'm looking for something in particular, but it's not a deal breaker. They're stacked in the box and there's a ribbon that allows you to pick them up easier.All in all, great quality and variety. However, it would be nice if they were organized by location/country or something of the sort.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that has a small child or children. It teaches them about storms and that thunder isn't something to be afraid of, raindrops are just dancing in their cloud! Who doesn't love happy raindrops? Kids seem to love this book also, I have already recommended it to several people that have children and a two elementary school teachers.As an adult reading this book, I found quite a few errors in the book. There were spelling errors and wrong words (like it was auto corrected) in some spots. It might not be a good learning to read book, as I was getting hung up in a few places and had to read a few sentances twice. That being said, I still believe the story is better than just me being picky about a few misplaced words.Give Drolly the Droplet and his new friend Alex a try, especially if your child is afraid of storms. By Cassandra Foster The Thunder Tale of Drolly the Droplet is a super cute book, perfect for parents with children who are afraid of storms, or are just interested in learning about them. You find yourself truly intrigued by Drolly's little predicament, and my own children (ages 2, 4, and 7) loved the idea of raindrops dancing in the clouds. The pictures are very beautiful and unique, and none of the language in the book is too advanced for the little ones to grasp or get lost in. The story itself is lovely, and the pictures just add to the general friendliness of the story itself.However, for parents looking for children's books that will help their children learn to read, you may want to look elsewhere. Although the story and pictures are very beautiful, there are a few misspelled words and words that seem to be missing or placed in the wrong spot. That being said, I still highly recommend the story for those parents that are looking for a unique way to ease their children's fear of storms and thunder. Drolly is a truly lovable character, and children of all ages are sure to fall in love with him, and follow him on his journey.

I believe this book is the best thing on the subject for the following reasons By Amazon Customer I bought this book after reading The New York Times Magazine’s article “What Can Mississippi Learn From Iran?” as I was searching the archives for something. I believe this book is the best thing on the subject for the following reasons: 1. It is well written. 2. It is written by Dr. Shadpour, the mastermind behind Iran's PHC System, rightfully called the Father of Iran’s Health Houses. 3. It comprehends the methodologies used for Iran’s health care system. 4. This PHC system was deployed on a relatively small budget, and this book reveals how to break down the complexity of large scale services, while maintaining simplicity of field tasks.Reading this book, one realizes why the inspiration for a winning heath care plan in the States would be found in the primary health care system created in the 1980s in Iran.This excellent books sets it all out read-ably and comprehensively.

About the Author Anthony Acciavatti, the principal investigator and author, is a graduate of Harvard University Graduate School of Design, and a principal of Somatic Collaborative, an award winning architecture and urban design practice in New York City. He has taught at Columbia University, Rhode Island School of Design, and Northeastern University. For almost a decade, Acciavatti has traveled by foot, boat, and car documenting the expanse of the river Ganges, from its source in the Himalayas to the historic city of Patna nearly 1,000km down stream. A J. William Fulbright Fellowship as well as grants from the Ford Foundation and Harvard University, amongst others, have supported his work on the Ganges.

As a geographer and a social scientist I find it an essential piece of literature for anyone interested in the relationship between water, urbanization and culture.

Beyond providing the most comprehensive environmental survey of the region, the book also provides insight on how the interface between design and policy can contribute to its management and improvement. Beautifully illustrated and masterfully researched the book is a must have for everyone interested in the Ganges River, Uttar Pradesh, India, rivers, and urbanization at large.

This is an impressive book and tool that I believe all nonprofit board members and executive directors should read. This book is concise and filled with helpful tips and templets. It is written in a way that makes you analyze the organizations that you are involved with and think of ways to make them run and function better. The author clearly has a nonprofit background, but the book shows that he also seems to have a business or corporate mentality that often seems to escape the nonprofit world. Reading this book will make you want to take a hard look at your board or organization and get to work on building the best group of board members to ensure the long term success of the organization. The tips and hints hidden throughout the book give you great ideas to evaulate the needs of the board, motivate board members, and ensure board members meet or exceed expectations. Additionally, the author is generous in providing templets that any organization can alter and use to build a better board and ultimately a better and more sustainable nonprofit. The book is laid out in a sensible manner and takes you step by step through a process to properly evaluate and then improve your organization's board. I am so impressed by the ideas and system put forth by the author in this book. I highly and strongly recommend it.

This well-written, fast-paced book provides a terrific roadmap for nonprofit professionals looking to strengthen their organizational structure from the inside out. Mr. Goldenburg provides clear guidance on how to make mutual expectations with a nonprofit board clear from the outset. The format of the book, with lots of bullet-points and checklists, was also very clear and easy to navigate - essential for any book in this digital age where readers have high expectations about getting their information as efficiently as possible. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I look forward to his next book.

A good read on many levels By jkurie@gshleb.com A well written read on dealing with grief and early widowhood and how the writer was able to not only move through the grief but also use its lessons. How she eventually used those skills in developing state wide programming for HIV-AIDS patients is truly impressive. Being retired, the leadership skills, while right on, were not as much an interest for me as was caring for a diabetic and blind husband and later developing services for HIV-AIDS patients at a time when anyone even having contact with them was avoided. The writer eventually used her talents and skills to work with executives as a coach. If I were still working and needed a coach, I would seriously consider contacting this woman.

A great and inspiring reading By alessandro cardito I got this book while I was travelling and I found it incredibly enjoyable.Dewi interviews in a simple and straighforward way 10 entrepeneurs of the digital age, feeding us with valuable information and motivation to go out and seek our own future!To be clear, this is not one of the many "How to" guides! You would not get a step by step approach to start a new busines but rather read about people like you who made it with little more than willpower and gut feeling.What I also enjoyed is that it's a short book- think of it as a well built magazine- Dewi really stands out as an interviewer! Recommended!

It gives a well rounded coverage of the total spectrum of business ideas that work for location independent entrepreneurs.It is written in a good mix of interviews and summaries, so the content is easy to understand and digest.I especially like chapter nine, which features an interview with myself :-)
