About the Author Ray Garcia is the managing director of Buoyant Capital, a global peer advisory think tank addressing the growth challenges of small to medium sized enterprises. The firm coordinates its team of experts to help its clients improve competitiveness through talent management, global market expansion partnership access, technology asset management, capital investment and restructuring. Buoyant Capital was founded in 2000 in New York City and has helped launch several start-up companies and works as an advisory to company founders, CEO’s, and their investors. Ray has over 20 years of experience as a technology entrepreneur, as company CTO co-founder, for four venture-backed companies. Earlier in his career, he worked as an executive for major banks including, Citicorp, Republic National Bank (now HSBC), Bank of America, and as a technology consultant to several large U.S. multi-national corporations. In 2008, he was elected to serve as an executive in resident at MIT Media Lab. Since 2010 he serves on the advisory board of Baruch College Field Center for Entrepreneurship. From 2011 to 2014, he taught an accelerated course in entrepreneurship at the University of Pisa, Italy, School of Economics, to PhD candidates and International MBA executives with a focus on innovation, technology transfer and venture spin-offs. In 2015 he is serving as a business expert to E.U. Commission Horizon 2020 SME innovation instrument where he will evaluate commercialization grant proposals of technology ventures.

A comprehensive set of business creation tools and approaches from the point of view of a real entrepreneur By Gabriele The book is a very interesting journey through business creation from the point of view of a "real" entrepreneur. The book mixes empirical approaches and patterns with solid methodologies that help the reader understanding the basic principles of startup creation and entrepreneurship coaching. It starts from the importance of observing and understanding market opportunities, and then it goes through the execution of business ideas up to the creation of solid business models.The "Social by design" chapter is an amazing set of hints and approaches to catch the value from social networks, tech clusters and local ecosystem. The Pisa (Italy) tech and startup ecosystem is taken in particular consideration within the whole book.It is a useful guide for new entrepreneurs as well as for academic and business professionals that want to see the global venture creation topic from another point of view. The book also includes a set of exercises that can be done by the reader or provided to students by a teacher.Very recommended.

Your coach in your pocket By Gualtiero Fantoni Ray Garcia is a wonderful mentor and coach.He is almost always available for those who are putting all their efforts in a business, but sometimes he travels or give lectures or you are not online because you are in a plane, you are moving from a conference to a fair where you have to pitch your business idea. That's why this book matters. You can have Ray motivating you before the pitch, you can remember to focus on sales, you can see how to present your idea to antoher possible customer or investor. It's a coach in your pocket.No one cares the use you'll do of the book content: you can extract some example and rewrite them by reformulating your business presentation, you can use some strategies to engage a valuable team member, to select the right supplier or to say "no!" to the wrong investor (in the most polite way you can). It does not matter. Use the book for the needs you have and discard the part you think you are not interested in, but remember the index because when your idea grows you need to read other sections or you can try to reinterpret the errors you did or find hints for the actions you are going doing. This book is the hook you need when climbing your business mountain.

I agree. Most of us lose our natural entrepreneurial instincts in the fog of the industrial education and labor systems. By sharing both the psychological and practical formulae for entrepreneurship, StartUP SOAR offers the prescription to discover - or re-discover - the ability to chart your own path.At the same time, not every reader will want or need to run out and start her own business. That's fine. The startup lessons in this book are just as much life lessons and business principles, which can be applied both for entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship. It teaches the entrepreneurial mentality that will help maximize growth and success across life's spectrum.
