By Ed Dean, Daystar Professionals Group, LLC I just finished reading the new book, Farmer Able. I am very impressed! The fable conveys seemingly complex ideas in a simple, understandable way. It is not easy to make leadership principles applicable to everyday life, but Mr. Barter has done it thorough Old Dirt's "eyes".The dialogues were charming and chocked full of nuggets of wisdom such as, "Goodness always seeds more goodness."Farmer Able's early mindset that the "pigs are running the farm" is the mindset all authoritarian leaders have which, to them, justifies their power-based way of doing things. As the book correctly pointed out at the end of the story, the pigs weren't running things after all. It was the leader's hoggish behavior which was at the core of all the discontentment and lack of performance.Fortunately, Farmer Able learned to care. That one thing changed everything.I also appreciated the teaching of servant leadership principles through the very creative, and often humorous, dialogue! Our family has raised Angus cattle for 23 years. The farm allegory is more true than most people know!I thank Mr. Barter for penning such a delightful and meaningful book. It will become a classic in leadership learning.

Farmer Able and his livestock will reveal to you, in simple terms and a fun story, how servant leadership can turn the biggest mess around. Some of my favorite quotes from the book:- "There's a wonder & magic in leaving your ego behind & serving others."- “When you help something else grow, everything grows, including yourself."- “Some people might try to hide a whip, but they can’t hide the effect of it.”- “You can’t run things when you run over them."- "The more people feel bad, the more they pursue bad; the more they pursue bad, the more they feel bad."- "A creature never thinks their muck is as bad as another’s."- “A question stretches things; a statement shrinks things.”

Great fable to convict us on why being a true leader is so important and to belive in the rewards - a story to show us how By Leanne Just finished the book, couldn’t put it down. I appreciate how the simple fable of a farm creates powerful and insightful clarity on how our relationships and, most important, our choices and attitudes, impact our world and the world of those around us. If you want to have a positive impact in your world and lead in a way that will multiply vs constrict – read this to help convict yourself. The antics of the horses, cows, chickens and one foxy dog will alert you when you or those around you start to go down a path that is not win/win and where to look for solutions. The feeling of possibility is wonderful when we watch the small but seismic shifts farmer able makes and what it means for his farm family. Art packs so much into this simple story it is like reading 3 or 4 leadership books that go straight to the heart and mind in a direct shot. This will create lots of great discussions too.
