This new book aims to provide both beginners and experts with a completely algorithmic approach to data analysis and conceptual modeling, database design, implementation, and tuning, starting from vague and incomplete customer requests and ending with IBM DB/2, Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server, or Access based software applications. A rich panoply of solutions to actual useful data sub-universes (e.g. business, university, public and home library, geography, history, etc.) is provided, constituting a powerful library of examples.

Four data models are presented and used: the graphical Entity-Relationship, the mathematical EMDM, the physical Relational, and the logical deterministic deductive Datalog ones. For each one of them, best practice rules, algorithms, and the theory beneath are clearly separated. Four case studies, from a simple public library example, to a complex geographical study are fully presented, on all needed levels.

Several dozens of real-life exercises are proposed, out of which at least one per chapter is completely solved. Both major historical and up-to-date references are provided for each of the four data models considered.

The book provides a library of useful solutions to real-life problems and provides valuable knowledge on data analysis and modeling, database design, implementation, and fine tuning.

Conceptual Data Modeling and Database Design: A Fully Algorithmic Approach, Volume 1: The Shortest Advisable Path, by Christian Mancas

Review

"What Christian Mancas wanted to do is to write the best possible book on real, pragmatic database design available, bar none. He suceeded. . . This book will find its way into the literature on database design and development. It has a good number of ideas that must be considered in any design task. It uses a sample-based approach and is thus easy to understand. It supports digestion due to nice exercises. And, finally it discusses in details also the result of a design in different DBMS languages. So, a reader can be sure that the book guides to the right track."

―Bernhard Thalheim, Department of Computer Science, Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, Germany (from the Foreword)

"Covers the classical data management topics that any computer professional should master. . . . This volume is a gentle yet rigorous and extensive introduction to the main topics in data management, with concrete examples on several popular database systems. There are lots of detailed examples, and each concept is covered in detail, and from several perspectives, using alternative definitions or notations where needed. The book ensures that no reader is left behind, and all potential questions are answered. . . . Best suited for the practitioner who wants to achieve a thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts in data management. . . . This volume is an important first step in understanding the complexities of data today."

―Dan Suciu, Professor, University of Washington, Seattle, USA (from the Foreword)

"One of the biggest problems in nowadays applications is the management of data. Analyzing and structuring large amounts of data relies on understanding and being able to describe its properties and constraints. Professor Christian Mancas's exceptionally well-documented work, A Conceptual Data Modeling and Database Design, gives the basic insights of the database models and their importance as a foundation for the complex applications. This book guides the reader throughout real-life scenarios, providing essential software engineering advice. Indeed, by addressing some of the problems people usually encounter when designing a database, Professor Mancas pedagogically connects the end user's requirements to the notions of entities and relations between them. Meanwhile, the mathematical analysis and proofs sustain the theoretical background of the statements and provide a complete view of the possible algorithmic optimizations. The first volume, A Fully Algorithmic Approach: The Shortest Advisable Path, represents an important contribution in the learning process as it advocates best practice rules in database designs with clear explanations and practical exercises. "This first volume mainly presents Professor Mancas's point of view of the database design state of the art (enriched with his main original contributions to the E-RDM and RDM). I am looking forward for the second volume of this book that will mainly present his most important contribution to the conceptual data modeling and database design: his (Elementary) Mathematical Data Model [(E)MDM], as well as MatBase, his KDBMS prototype based on both (E)MDM, E-RDM, RDM, and Datalog."―Andra Hugo, PhD, University of Bordeaux, France

"Modern scientific and business challenges, the proliferation of personal computers and intelligent gadgets, the Internet and industries' large amounts of data, all fuel a huge need of database management systems. The book by C. Mancas is an excellent introduction to pragmatic database design and development. Presented in a gentle manner, with many examples, the book is suited to a large category of readers, from computer science and engineering students to the practitioners of the domain."―Cristian S. Calude, Chair Professor, Department of Computer Science, University of Auckland, New Zealand

"Don't forget. Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember her, you are not alone." The 2011 anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica rapidly became one of the smash hits of the genre, and a mere four years later is well on its way to becoming a classic. In a mere twelve episodes, this series explored themes of hope, despair, cosmic destiny, and individual fate, all against the backdrop of a magical-girl retelling of Faust. Now this new book studies precisely what the series did, how, and even why, from Buddhist belief and paper theater to Walpurgisnacht and the commedia dell'arte. Covering the original television series, three of its manga spinoffs, and the sequel film Rebellion, this is a must-read for fans and scholars alike!

The perfect animation, story, characters, and themes. Sometimes anime fans never find it, after all, there is so much crap and mediocrity in the anime world to wade through, that it's hard to find something that truly suits you. I was lucky. Madoka was only the 19th anime I watched and even now, three years later, still holds true as my favorite of all time. This book is a must-have for any fan of the series, and collector of anime as a whole. It is clear that the author did his research and spent a lot of time pouring over the technicalities of the series. From the projector-like openings to the subtle references to Faust, I'd say he caught it all. For a long time I have been looking for a critical study of this show, but until now have found nothing.I, too, am working on self-publishing a book and seeing how much work went into this one really brightened my day. I recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about Madoka Magica. Beyond its genre-breaking story and dark storyline.

Starting out as a harrowing wartime sea adventure, Burroughs’s story ultimately develops into a lost world story reminiscent of such novels as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Lost World (1912) and Jules Verne’s The Mysterious Island (1874) and Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864). Burroughs adds his own twist by postulating a unique biological system for his lost world, in which the slow progress of evolution in the world outside is recapitulated as a matter of individual metamorphosis. By Claude Avary I first read "The Land That Time Forgot" five years ago, when it was still published in three separate short volumes: "The Land That Time Forgot", "The People That Time Forgot", and "Out of Time's Abyss" (all originally published in Blue Book in 1918). I enjoyed the story immensely, but I mistakenly treated it as a trilogy, or a series of novels like Burroughs's own Barsoom series, and read them separately, interspersed with other books. With the publication of this single volume "Commemorative Edition", I finally realized that Burroughs meant for the work to be published as one novel (which it was until the 1960s), and sat down to read it as such. What a difference this makes. I now believe that "The Land That Time Forgot" is Burroughs's best work, and the definitive "lost world" tale. The three sections are semi-independent, but work as a whole in unexpected ways. In Part I, we are introduced to the Island of Caprona and the bizarre prehistoric land of Caspak hidden inside it, but only after a long submarine journey. Before the hero can solve the mystery of the strange evolutionary system of Caspak, we cut to Part II, which immediately launches us into an adventure on the other side of the Island with a new narrator. Many plot strands come to an end at the conclusion of this second section, but there are still some questions left, still some mysteries, and Part III brings it all to a great conclusion, when we finally see behind the curtains and learn the enigma of Caspak.Burroughs's writing is simple, tough, and exciting, and Caspak provides endless excitement from all corners of pre-history and fantasy: dinosaurs, sea monsters, cavemen, giant mammals, and winged humanoids! And there are airplanes and German subs as well. But what really sets this novel apart from other, similar stories, is the evolutionary concept that rules Caspak. I will say no more...the riddle of Caspak is the best of many reasons to read this wonderful novel, presented complete for the first time in nearly half a century.

The next two are "The People That Time Forgot" and "Out of Time's Abyss" (both also free). Wonderful book and beautifully written. I've seen alot of complaints about typos in the free versions but I didn't notice any. Burroughs is great at engaging the reader throughout the entire book. There was enough description to engulf you into the story but not so much that you got bored. Great and quick read.

By A Customer While Burroughs was denigrated as being a "pulp" novelist for most of his literary career, he was clearly a better writer than the vast majority of genre writers who publish today, and he was also a better story teller than most. The complaint of a reviewer that Burroughs was an obsessive racist would be hilarious if it weren't so ignorantly misguided. Similarly the complaint that Burroughs had no ear for dialogue is drenched in ignorance. The dialogue of early 20th century America is not the dialogue of late 20th century England, a fact that should not need explaining, but unfortunately explication is needed for those who who lack the most rudimentary of analytical faculties. I find Hemingway to have a tin ear for dialogue because the people I grew up with didn't speak like Hemingway characters at all, but I don't criticize Hemingway for that and suspect that he accurately recorded the cadence of his fellows. Burroughs had a good feel for the common man of the early 20th century, which is one reason his books still sell. The Land That Time Forgot is a great adventure by a very good fantasy writer. Check it out while it's still in print.

Facebook as a marketing tool for entrepreneurs By Elizabeth Pavlovna Although Facebook has been a runaway success for the founders and is recognized by millions of users for it's ability to contact old friends, make new friends, and follow with those that have similar interests and viewpoints as yours, its value as a strategic marketing tool for businesses is still being explored. This short piece expressly covers what Facebook is, when it was founded and why. From there it clearly identifies what an entrepreneur can get out of being a user. In this book Patricia Holder explains the options, the benefits and how to use Facebook to promote and advance your business.

Beautiful Birds, by Jean Roussen

From School Library Journal Gr 1–4—Organized alphabetically, these stunning illustrations of birds will inspire students of graphic design more than they convey avian information. The bright neon pink of the endpapers recurs on each spread, appearing as small details such as a kiwi's glowing eyes or as background as eagles swooping for their prey. Sharp-eyed readers will appreciate visual humor provided by touches such as the construction crane in the background of the page featuring whopping and crowned cranes or the lyrebird's tail next to the musical instrument of the same name. The brief, poetic text suffers from bumps in rhyme and rhythm, although the revelation of the peacock as the book's "guide" offers an amusing twist at the end. Small type minimizes the featured letters and not all of them represent birds, e.g., "V" is for a flight formation. Those searching for an avian-themed alphabet book incorporating large letters, clear illustrations, and brief but factual introductions should consider Jerry Pallotta's The Bird Alphabet Book (Charlesbridge, 1986). VERDICT Walker's illustrations deserve repeated viewings and can serve as a starting point for art and design projects for students in elementary school and above.—Kathy Piehl, Minnesota State University Library, Mankato

Review "Beautiful Birds is an elegant and unpatronising alphabet of birds. The language is sophisticated [...] but children and parents will breeze through the book because the rhymes have momentum and the illustrations have poise and wit and the colours are entrancing."-The Guardian"From albatross to “zos-ter-o-pi-dae,” the images in this slightly oversized import consistently stun with their composition and use of color. […] readers’ eyes glide over the luscious pages. The image of a nightingale, framed in an open, circular window beneath a crescent moon, is alone worth the purchase price. With pages that beg to be sliced out and framed, a positive feast for the eyes."-Kirkus Reviews"The illustrations pop off the page; the palette is bold (the bright orange endpapers will wake you right up), and the compositions are superb. Walker creates beautiful moments with line and shape, and the book moves seamlessly from one bird to the next."—Kirkus Reviews"The spreads are as opulent as a peacock’s tail, and they’ll send many back for long second looks."-Publishers Weekly"Most kids-and adults-will enjoy flipping through the vivid, beautiful pages, each of which would look at home framed on a wall."-Booklist"Walker’s illustrations deserve repeated viewings and can serve as a starting point for art and design projects for students in elementary school and above."-School Library Journal"Some of the most beautiful design I've seen in a picture book. ...every single page looks like it could be ripped out and framed."-The Busy Librarian"Its elegant avians swoop, flutter and spread their plumage in alphabetical formations, accompanied by rhyming couplets. It will encourage anyone of four-plus to greet the spring with knowledge as well as delight."-New Statesman"The rhyming couplets create a book that has a jaunty swing to it, moving swiftly from one bird to the next. The rhymes are well done, neither filled with sing-song tones or too forced. Instead they add a touch of humor to the book, a feeling of not taking themselves too seriously. The result is a light-hearted mix of silliness and feathers. The illustrations by Walker form the heart of this book...Done with a modern feel, the illustrations are stylized and strong. Stylish, jaunty and fun, this alphabet bird book is no feather weight."-Waking Brain Cells

It's a pretty tall book, and as such, might have trouble fitting on a standard children's bookshelf. As much as I love the illustrations, I find the rhyming patterns to be a little awkward for my taste. "K is for kakapo, the parrot of the night and K is for kiwi: two strange birds that lack flight." There are also references that will go over children's heads- "L is for lyrebird, like the string instrument." Other times, the text seems to be making a point that I am not sure I understand- "and mandarin ducks, the oddest of couples." Why are they odd couples? I guess you can take a lot of your questions to Google after reading this book. I had hoped for a cool book to showcase various birds to my child, but I'm not sure this hits the mark. I wish that they had included a pronunciation guide in the back of the book, perhaps along with a few sentences describing each type of bird mentioned in the book. I suppose that would take this book from being just entertaining to being educational as well.

By this description, I mean that each letter of the alphabet has a bird associated with it. For example, "A is for albatross, the admiral of the skies. B is for bee-eaters, BEWARE any bug that flies." Each page is dedicated to one bird, with a vibrantly colored illustration, and a one-line descriptor, as seen above. As you can also see there is a bit of a rhyming scheme to this book, but a lot of the descriptors are too advanced for the intended audience of this book. "Q is for quetzal, a god among us." How many 7 year-old children will know about the Aztecs and their deities? If you take this book at face value, which is a gorgeously illustrated book that can teach your children the alphabet and birds at the same time, then it is a top-notch book. If your children have more questions after reading about some of these birds, then you could make expand the lesson for this book and research the birds that interest them. You could also use it as a beginner's field guide. Overall, a quality made book that your kids will enjoy reading through.

Each page features a beautiful bird (or two) and a one-line rhyming phrase about the bird(s). The 4 - year old loved this book as they are studying birds in science at preschool. This one is a keeper for the permanent bookshelves (although it's one of those taller books that may require a higher shelf space. Gorgeous book - BUY IT (or at least ask your library to purchase this one) !

They give you a few strategies to improve your marketing in the following:Google+TwitterPinterestFacebookInstagramLinkedInI love that they mention when brands fail at social media, it isn’t usually because they don’t have the audience but it is because they fail to communicate with the followers they already have. The author understands that social media is an exchange between the customer and the brand. The customer offers feedback and suggestions whereas the brand offers information and its perspective.

By Mick331 Google "Social Media" and you will learn more from your search results than the 5 minutes it takes to read this waste of money. Very little useful information provided. Very disappointing. The entire book is 16 pages of small type then repeats the same exact text in larger double spaced type over 48 pages. Has no copyright date, no author named, and no page numbers.

I Found My Friends re-creates the story of Nirvana, from its earliest days in 1987 to its sudden end seven years later, through the words of the musicians and producers who played and interacted with the band. Soulsby interviewed over 200 musicians from bands that played and toured with Nirvana, including well-known alternative bands such as Hole, Mudhoney, Meat Puppets, Buzzcocks, Butthole Surfers, and the Jesus Lizard, as well as countless others from the alternative rock revolution. Readers get a more personal history of Nirvana than ever before, including Nirvana's consideration of nearly a dozen previously unmentioned candidates for drummer before settling on David Grohl; a recounting of Nirvana's famously disastrous South American shows from never-before-heard sources; and recollections from their first manager, who hosted the band's first ever gig.

I Found My Friends relives Nirvana's meteoric rise from the days before the legend to through their increasingly damaged superstardom. More than twenty years after Kurt Cobain's tragic death, Nick Soulsby removes the posthumous halo from the brow of Kurt Cobain and travels back through time to observe one of rock and roll's most critical bands as no one has ever seen them before.

“Fans of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana should find much to savor in this fascinating oral history of one of rock's most iconic bands.” ―Booklist

“The book ably captures the lost milieu of independent rock, which Nirvana's moment irretrievably transformed.” ―Kirkus

“[T]his history is captivating enough to distinguish itself among the crowded canon. Hard-core and casual Nirvana fans alike will find this book engaging.” ―Library Journal

“Nick…demonstrates true passion for the music and a deep understanding of the musicians who create it. His words are more than just ciphers to exchange for dollars, just as the music he's writing about was always more than just noise for profit.” ―Kurt Danielson, Tad / Vaporland

There are some voices of people that are familiar to the Nirvana fan, but the real treasure of this book is the inclusion of friends and musicians that have not been previously documented. The story of Nirvana is well known, but Nick's book manages to find a novel perspective of the band in order to paint a picture of Nirvana by its peers. Well done.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. One of the most original books on Nirvana in the past 20 years By Imaginal Component Nick Soulsby has had an excellent, opinionated Nirvana blog for several years now. (Nirvana Legacy.) Typically exceedingly verbose, Soulsby's own words take a backseat here and instead he has compiled a huge trove of tales from musicians and friends of the band, in oral history format. My main gripe is that this book is more of a "what it was like to be in an underground band in the 1980s" rather than offering much insight into Nirvana or Cobain, but there's quite a few anecdotes from people who have never gone on record before recounting fun little stories that really show what a normal bunch of guys the Nirvana gents were. Obviously a lot of the story has been lost to memory over the decades, as many of this book's subjects readily admit. Still, Nick has done an exceptional job of tracking all of these people down and culling their stories into a cohesive narrative. This book is a companion of sorts to the recent "No Seattle" compilation released by Soul Jazz Records, curated by Soulsby. Check that out as well. While I would have loved a bit more "dirt" in this book, the fact that it gets so many people who were "there" on the record with what they recall is quite a monumental achievement. Accordingly, this book becomes one of the most original books on the subject of Nirvana to be released in quite some time. It doesn't strike as a cheap cash-in like so many others do. It was written by a true fan of the band who wanted to present something cohesive and new to fellow fans, and does so with great success. Check out the author's Legacy blog for some heavy-handed armchair analysis and some interesting statistical analysis as well of all sorts of weird Nirvana data. Also check out his Incesticide book if you can track down a physical copy: it contains some original info as well as a bunch of editorializing that, while surely debatable, is a pleasure to know exists since it clearly came from a passionate fan.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. I have read a lot of books about Nirvana, ... By Tammy McKelvie I have read a lot of books about Nirvana, but found this book very insightful and well written. It was well written and, the addition of the perspectives from many of the known and unknown bands which played with Nirvana, made it an extremely interesting book to read to learn not only about Nirvana but all these other influential bands as well. Definitely worth reading.

The descendants of human civilization have fought the invaders in a war of attrition for several hundred years. The humans now live like the Apaches or Sioux, mobile warrior tribes attacking the crumbling civilization of the invaders. The humans finally win and push in invaders into the sea. Not great but OK.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Framework that works! By Amazon Customer This book is worth reading for many reasons. Here are a few:Michael's experience with start ups, venture capitalists and corporations give him instant credibility. He has lived this work for a long time and worked across several industries. He knows what he is talking about and speaks in language that business people understand.Secondly,he has created a model/framework that is able to be used and scaled. This model, combined with the principles around innovation networks, using lean methods with start ups and bringing start ups and corporations earlier in the process makes sense and is easy to read. Don't let that mislead you-there is much richness to be mined. I found myself re-reading sections several times and spending time to reflect provided me with additional insights around the cultural impacts of this type of effort.Michael's generous us of his personal experience, both successful and not, provide rich learning for anyone engaged in trying to work with start ups and corporations in creating new products and services. Finally, his thinking on the some of the polarities show deep thought and valuable learning. The insights around developing the "both and" approach vs. an "either or" approach and how he balanced several of these tensions are developed in his examples. Some of the polarities he works with are collaborating and competition, risk and safety, structure and flexibility, short and long term and growth and stagnation. There are many more. The point is that he has identified the inherent tensions and found ways to make them work in service of innovation. Finally, Michael's passion and enthusiasm for this work is contagious! I highly recommend it.Rick Rocchetti

Preparing for a collective disruption of the future By paul4innovating The core of his book is firstly arguing the old definitions of innovation are dead (this I totally agree with) and as Michael states new ideas are coming from everywhere, emerging competitors are disrupting established companies every day. Companies need to increasingly focus on new business creation for step-change growth.Michael rightly points out this is a scary place to go for big companies, as this is transformative innovation and most are simply are not good at undertaking this. His book sets out to address that ‘soft spot’ in the big- company skill set. It is all about understanding, learning ad playing the collaborative disruption game. This collaborative disruptive game he believes comes through a collective disruption model where you engage more with the entrepreneurial ecosystem to create market-disrupting businesses. That means collaborating earlier and more deeply with partners and that’s the roadmap he’s trying to share with this book. The book lays out some practical approaches in each phase of corporate/start-up co-creation: discovery, definition, incubation and integration. And he supports his case with interviews and examples from some leading exponents of innovationThe book offers much for the insider within big organizations but also for the partners found outside, as well as for the many entrepreneurs that will find much that will help them when they are dealing with big organizations. So this is a book that goes beyond transactional approaches and focuses on the need for relationship-based networks and a solid understanding of the innovating ecosystem, one of collective disruption for future growth.

It's a pragmatic, strategic and carefully thought-out roadmap for how to build win-win alliances between new venture creators and corporate partners. He goes to great lengths to articulate all the different ways in which these types of relationships can be structured, explaining the risks and rewards of each model.Mike's experience from being on both sides of the table brings a welcome candor and authority to the content. The book's flow and pacing also make it very compelling. There's no hyperbole here. Just smart, succinct and diverse examples of how and why to engage in various types of conversations, with the goal of negotiating deals that maximize each parties' best assets and outcomes.I know from my own experience in structuring high-profile corporate-backed deals for various entrepreneurial ventures I've started that there's no "one-size-fits-all" model and that the personalities/priorities of the key stakeholders, bureaucratic hiccups of large enterprises, naivety of entrepreneurial backers, fine print in the contracts, etc. are all key factors that will make or break a deal. Period. Michael addresses all of these issues and many more. This is the first business book that truly mirrored my own experience.I highly recommend this book to any business person who's serious about pursuing a smart and effective, not "headline making" approach to building these types of alliances. The upside can be huge. So can the downside. Michael understands that implicitly.

"Evolution doesn't build upon past failures but upon what worked well". - Jason Fried - Rework Restart - Lessons from one startup for another is a compilation of the lessons learnt while runnning Musicfellas - a digital music startup which was acquired by Times Internet Limited. These lessons come from personal experiences of the author and are hugely anecdotal. In words of the author, "This is the book I would want to read next time I start up". From the author: Running a startup in India is different from anywhere else. Hence, this could only be a guideline to how you should run your startup in India. Also, this book is specifically guidelines to running a startup, although some of it could be applied to running a business as well. Musicfellas taught me a lot - importance of money, the things that matter and the value of having smart, supportive people around you and the fact that in the moments when you feel life is tough for you, it is for everyone else involved too. Even though we never grew to a scale as I had wished, I loved it. During the journey, I lost a few things, gained some more and became an overall better, smarter and wiser people. Now that Musicfellas has been acquired, I’ve had time to look back. In retrospect, I find a lot of things that I'd have done differently. But, there are some things that we did that I wouldn't change, some moments that were perfect and I would keep them as is. So, as lessons for mine or even your next venture, I'd like to share some of those things that I would do more in my next startup.

Must-read if you want to startup By Naren As someone with previous startup experience and looking to startup again, this book is what I would give someone if they wanted to know "I have an idea, now how do I create a startup out of it?".Most entrepreneurs (& wantrepreneurs like me!) obsess too much over things that matter less in the big picture & slip up on things that really matter. Those things become apparent only after the startup succeeds or brilliantly fails. Since the author has seen A-Z of the process from idea to exit, he is convincing when he says for example to be stoic about getting press coverage but to be actively involved in getting the working culture right based on the vision & mission of the company.Overall the book is a light and easy read with less hand-waving and more actionable lessons for every step of the way from Idea-to-Exit. If you want to understand how you to start and run a startup in India or anywhere in the world this is a must-read.

By Ari You don't often come across resources on the world of business as comprehensive as this. You won't just learn about today and tomorrow's markets and business practices in Business Model Validation; you'll also take away valuable lessons from industries you never imagined you could learn from. And that ability to present such powerful concepts and ideas at new angles is the brilliance behind Wanetick's writings and insights.

By Thomas Easton Business Model Validation is at least as, if not more, enjoyable to read as any of the Malcolm Gladwell or Nico Nassim Taleb books. But you really can’t make money from reading most popular business books. However, because Business Model Validation gets deep into the nitty-gritty of assessing business models, the reader can make much better business and investment decisions. For instance, readers will learn how mandatory retirement age policies ratchet up the risk profiles of companies as well as how initiatives taken by companies to increase morale force employees to become more myopic. There was great insight into how reverse stock splits destroy enterprise value as well as why a company’s extended receivables collections can actually be a signal of a company’s strength. The example given about a franchisor and its franchisees being overly aligned was really interesting.

For example, in the chapter about on-demand taxis (dealing with companies such as Uber and Lyft), Wanetick discusses how the balkanization of San Francisco’s public transportation system is a boon to companies like Uber and Lyft but is not a replicable advantage in other cities. The chapter on analog and antilog analysis was fascinating. I loved the analysis dealing with the synergies of the cement and bridal industries. A fantastic book filled with practical insights unavailable anywhere else.
