The legendary photographer’s quintessential portraits of Paris—including several previously unpublished works—in an affordable new paperback. Robert Doisneau’s ability to infuse images of daily life with poetic nuance has given enduring popular appeal to his work. In this new volume, he leads us on an entrancing tour into Parisian gardens, along the Seine, and through crowds of Parisians. Workers, beggars, lovers, jugglers, children, dancers—Doisneau’s lens captures all, in myriad lights and moods. Sometimes humorous, often ironic, and unfailingly tender, his oeuvre is iconic and reflects the Paris of our dreams. Composed, structured images are featured alongside impromptu snapshots of Parisian life, demonstrating the range of Doisneau’s talent as both artist and photojournalist.

While the circumnavigation of the solar system seems farfetched, it may not be once the problem of effective anti-gravitational control is solved. In this book I have assumed that the many researchers now actually at work on this problem will achieve such a result in the next decade. It is not at all impossible that they may for we all know that the more minds that work at a problem, the sooner it will be solved. The discovery of a means of negating, reversing or otherwise utilizing the immense force of gravitation for space flight purposes is now thought to be within the bounds of probability. It should occur some time within the next hundred years, possibly in even the short period I assume here Notice: This Book is published by Historical Books Limited (www.publicdomain.org.uk) as a Public Domain Book, if you have any inquiries, requests or need any help you can just send an email to publications@publicdomain.org.uk This book is found as a public domain and free book based on various online catalogs, if you think there are any problems regard copyright issues please contact us immediately via DMCA@publicdomain.org.uk

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great old teenager's yarn By David Hill I loved this when I read it as a teenager. It's now terribly out of date, but I rearead it recently, and still like it. Make no mistake, it is for teenagers. And it is a product of its time. But it's well written, the characters worked for me, and it was a good mind-stretching story for this kid, and a good nostalgia trip for this old man.

Bad science, entertaining only for young readers By Walter Stanley Though I have seen books by Donald Wollheim since I was a teenager, I’m pretty sure that this is the first book of his that I’ve ever read. This is a juvenile book, of the sort that I used to read before I was ten. Some juvenile books are actually quite mature, and are juvenile books because they are written for that age group and the characters are in their teens. That isn’t quite true of this one. This was part of the Winston series, which was supposed to get young people interested in science fiction, and also in science. The books started with an essay by the author which was supposed to inspire an appreciation of science. Wollheim’s essay is on anti-gravity, which he told his readers scientists were currently working on: “In this book I have assumed that the many researchers now actually at work on this problem will achieve such a result in the next decade.” To the best of my knowledge, scientists were not working on anti-gravity in the 1950s, nor are they now. I don’t even think there is any scientific speculation supporting the notion of anti-gravity. This irritated me from the get-go.So the story involves a race of aliens who have set up machinery on the planets in the solar system that are somehow stealing the sun’s energy. So Earth starts getting cooler and scientists determine that these machines will eventually cause the sun to go nova. An anthropologist and his son are in the Central American wilderness looking for Incan ruins, so they happen to be near the spot where the aliens have established one of the energy-stealing machines. In the process of turning it off, Burl, the boy, is somehow get-go with a charge which makes him the only one capable of turning the machines off. Earth sends its new anti-gravity ship into space to turn these machines off on all the other planets. Burl has to go with them. If I had read this at the age of ten, I would have found a romp through the solar system fighting mysterious aliens entertaining. The planets were presented as accurately as they were understood to be at that time, and the reader learns some interesting facts about Pluto, the ninth planet. But largely the science is terrible and the story is uninspired.

Free Ebook Total Business Marketing Makeover: A step by step guide for small businesses and busy professionals: Market your business for just $11 a day!

Here is a method that is teaching small business owners and busy professionals how to put their marketing efforts on auto-pilot while earning passive income for just $11 a day.

Warning: Throw all of your other marketing books away. Fire your marketing firm and PR representative because this is the only system you’ll ever need.  Just know that many marketing firms are meter feeders who will nickel and dime you for every penny you have. After all, their job is not to help you make money, but to help you spend it. This allows them to fatten their pockets while you’re left with zero dollars in your bank account.  Trust me; I’ve been there.  I’ve been marketing in the inspirational and self-development niche for almost a decade, and I’ve heard and tried everything in the book including:

  • Spending precious time and money on deadbeat websites that are nothing more than digital brochures.
  • Ranking for targeted keywords in Google, only to get visitors who don’t convert into buyers.
  • Building large lists of freebie seekers and LookyLoos.
  • Guest blogging for marketing mill websites that don’t value my content and creativity.
  • Creating videos and blog posts that have gotten pummeled by spammers and digital bots.
  • Consistently writing great articles, only to get blown away by competitors with far inferior content.
  • Eking out a pitiful living selling affiliate products and services.

None of these things work if you don’t have a system in place. The truth of the matter is that passion, consistency, and hard work just aren’t enough.

This is the reason why a great deal of mom and pop shops fail while huge franchises like McDonald’s are able to reel in the dough, year after year.  This proves that success is all in the systems.  Besides, you can be blind, deaf, dumb, and only know four good words of English and still succeed with a business that has an effective marketing system.

So I’ve come up with a viable marketing solution for ordinary people like you and me.  This system allows the regular Joe Shmoe to get a piece of the $1.4 trillion dollar e-commerce pie.  No, you don’t have to buy leads, beg for sales, or chase down customers.  You just need to plug things in and go. I can’t promise you that you will get rich overnight; after all, I am not a marketer. However, with consistency, dedication and hard work, you can start to build passive streams of income that can turn into a thriving online business.  In no time you will be able to:

  • Get leads and close more sales by mastering the art and science of email marketing.
  • Research and make more connections on social media platforms such as LinkedIn.
  • Build a massive following with Google Plus.
  • Create membership sites that will allow you to quickly generate hundreds and even thousands of dollars in passive income.
  • Create an alliance of affiliates and partners who can help promote your product and services and expand your brand.
  • Transform your website into an automated money making machine, so you can make money while you sleep.
  • Outsource boring, tedious grunt work so you can relax and spend more quality time with family and friends.

Just imagine doing all of this for just $11 a day.  Yes, you read it right.  For $11 a day you can launch and maintain an entire marketing system.  11 bucks is nothing compared to the thousands you paid to go to school or to get expensive training that you can’t even apply to real life. With my blueprint, you have nothing to lose. Just download the book right away and start marketing your business today.

With a Master's Degree in Science: Marketing and Management she has managed millions of dollars of top-secret equipment in the Iraq war, worked as a correspondent at the United States Pentagon, and transformed failing financial branches into top producing sales machines in New York City. Her 'pull yourself up by your own bootstrap' methodology enabled her to transform her life as well as the lives of thousands of others through her blogs, articles, videos, and eBooks - this book being the major one to date. Not a promise make for miracles the simply offers us the framework, motivation, and inspiration to succeed. Or as she states in her Introduction, `In this short eBook, I am going to give you some great tips on how to navigate the Internet jungle, to ensure that the odds will ever be in your favor. I am not going to recommend any expensive products or services. I am not going to do that because I know that start- ups, busy professionals, and solopreneurs simply don't have the resources to invest in expensive marketing campaigns. So instead, I am going to show you how you can market your business with just $ 11 a day. This gives you a monthly budget of $ 330. I won't go a cent over. However, I will recommend some additional products that may extend outside the budget.'In an extremely casual and friendly manner she introduces her ideas by relating to film and to other aspects we can all appreciate. To add to the power of her presentation she includes videos. To give an idea of the territory covered the following distills the sections very briefly: Market Research, Product Creation, Email Marketing, Prospecting for Leads, Testing and Tracking, and Building Your Alliance and Affiliate Network. In her concluding statements (The Rubik's Cube) she offers, `The biggest problem that a lot of entrepreneurs face, is that they can't see the big picture. They simply can't see all the different moving pieces and how they tie together. They don't know how to connect the dots. It's not their fault. For years, they were indoctrinated by public schools systems that have programmed them to specialize and pay close attention to detail. However, no one has ever taken the time to show how the information is tightly woven into a network that we know as the Internet. One person can sit at their computer and reach thousands, if not millions of people just by typing words on their keyboard. This is an infinite amount of power that every solopreneur, busy professional, and entrepreneur must tap into. Just think about solving a Rubik's Cube. It has six different sides with different colored faces. With a Rubik's Cube, you can't align just one side at a time. You need to crack the code, and adopt a strategy that can align all six faces at a once.'This lady knows how to teach and for anyone needing marketing advice, this is a Bible. Highly Recommended. Here is the "How to Guide" By Anibal Madeira The authoress contacted me via mail in order to review her work. I receive daily several such requests (and unfortunately I can’t consider the large majority of them) but in this case I’ve became immediately enthralled by the structure of the mail. Obviously she was using her “Jedi tricks” (aka her vast marketing skills), and even in a short glance I felt compelled to read more and investigate what this Melissa Remigio has to offer. If the product she was offering to review was any other than a Marketing book I would be interested, but in this case the effect was much stronger – because what she was “selling” was her knowledge on how to do good marketing; and with that first contact she already proved to a total stranger that she indeed mastered those skills! That is quite something regarding on making a strong first impression! She is funny, frank and honest. She won’t fool the reader making him believe that he can face giants alone, or that everything will run smoothly and the reader will smash any competition just following her advice. Also, and contrary to most marketing books and articles I’ve read, she doesn’t assume that you have a team working with (or for) you, that you have considerable financial allowance, honed marketing skills or whatever. I've worked as a product manager for years and managed small businesses, and obviously I know in my skin the difficulties of extremely limited budgets. This book will allow a fighting chance for growth and profit for any small business. It focus not only on the product (and what that product must satisfy), how to search your customer, how to get known and trusted by them. It will provide tools to make good content and become known in the market, get peer and field specialists’ approval, recruit a tribe, maximize your visibility on the net and turn clicks into profits. It won’t be easy. It will require work, but Melissa Remigio already done most of the work for you. Follow her advice, read her book, watch her videos and with a small initial investment and 11USD/day you will be able to market efficiently your product.Note: This product will need updates. Every day appear new marketing tools and functionalities change quickly. You can follow the author on her social media for more information.

This is the story of how bankers with help from the members of Wall Street’s Opacity Protection Team (this includes politicians, economists, think-tanks, rating firms, investment charter constrained asset managers and the financial regulators) undermined the global financial system by reintroducing opacity. The result of reintroducing opacity was the worse financial crisis since the Great Depression and the slowest economic recovery. Transparency Games is about the bankers of Wall Street and the City of London creating and maintaining a veil of opacity to hide behind as they rig the global financial markets for their benefit. Their bad behavior isn’t constrained to simply misrepresenting financial products like toxic subprime mortgage-backed securities, but includes rigging the global interest rate, foreign exchange, commodity and equity markets so the bankers’ bets pay off. The bankers’ bad behavior affects everyone. Whether you are buying electricity or a house or you are investing in your pension plan, opacity lets the bankers take money from you that they are not entitled to. In addition to misrepresenting securities and rigging the global financial markets for their benefit, the veil of opacity also allowed bankers to manipulate the response to the financial crisis that began on August 9, 2007. They used it to sell the idea banks should be bailed out using taxpayer money for fear financial contagion would trigger a second Great Depression. Naturally, part of bailing out the banks was not holding the bankers accountable for their misbehavior or stopping their looting. Transparency Games offers an inside look at how Wall Street and the City of London bankers reintroduced opacity and cynically fight any legislative or regulatory attempt to restore or retain transparency in the financial system. Filled with engaging anecdotes, the book illustrates the principles of transparency using clear plastic and brown paper bags. Based on meticulous research, the book examines the role of transparency in our financial system; the flaw in the design of our financial system that allowed opacity to creep back in; and the response to our current financial crisis that retained opacity for the benefit of Wall Street and the City of London bankers rather than restoring transparency and saving Main Street. It is told by an individual who had the temerity and tenacity over two plus decades to actually fight to bring transparency to all the opaque corners of the global financial system. Based on this experience, Transparency Games introduces the solution for fixing the design flaw in the global financial system. The solution is the Transparency Label InitiativeTM. This solution restores transparency by using a label to steer investors away from blindly gambling. This effectively ends Wall Street and the City of London bankers’ ability to hide behind the veil of opacity where they rig the global financial markets for the bankers’ benefit. This solution also ends bank bailouts due to the fear of financial contagion and the problem of Too Big to Fail.

Transparency Games: How bankers rig the world of finance, by Mr. Richard G Field

About the Author Richard Field is the Director of the Institute for Financial Transparency, an organization focused on bringing valuation transparency to all the opaque corners of the financial system and the sponsor of the Transparency Label InitiativeTM. Since the mid-90s, he has been a leader in defining and implementing transparency in the structured finance industry. Mr. Field designed, developed and patented a low cost information system to handle all of the complexity involved in making each structured finance security transparent. His solution uses a data warehouse to provide all market participants with easily accessible, standardized collateral level data on an observable event basis over the life of each deal. In April 2008, Mr. Field wrote a Learning Curve column for Total Securitization that described the gold standard for transparency for structured finance securities. Subsequently, he consulted with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners on their July 2012 white paper on financing home ownership. In both of these widely read publications, he discussed the need for both timely disclosure of the underlying collateral performance information and the use of a data warehouse to capture, standardize and disseminate this data. Apparently, while his call for timely disclosure was ignored, his call for the use of a data warehouse was heard. In Europe, the European Central Bank championed the creation of the EU Data Warehouse to provide transparency into structured finance securities. in the U.S., Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are in the process of building this data warehouse for residential mortgage-backed securities. It is called the Common Securitization Solutions LLC. About these two data warehouses, Mr. Field remarked, as the beaver said to the rabbit looking down on the Hoover Dam, “I didn’t build it all by myself, but it is based on an idea of mine.” Earlier in his career, he worked as an Assistant Vice President for First Bank System and as a Research Assistant at the Federal Reserve Board. Mr. Field has an MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Yale University.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. International Atoms? By Roger D. Launius Almost every belligerent nation of World War II organized massive scientific efforts to develop weapons that they believed would alter the course of the conflict. The Germans, among other projects, built and launched several thousand V-2 rockets against London and other European cities. The Japanese worked on an ill-conceived and unrealizable "death ray." Only the American effort to build the atomic bomb, however, fulfilled the promise of a truly revolutionary weapon that had the potential of changing the war's outcome. The history of the Manhattan Project--as well as both the significance and terror of the nuclear weapons that emerged from the effort--has been exhaustively documented since 1945.While most knowledgeable readers are aware that there were also efforts to develop nuclear weapons by other nations, notably in Germany, the making of the atom bomb has largely been told as an American story with the far-ranging efforts of the Manhattan Project taking center stage. But atomic science was an international endeavor and even the Manhattan Project was more of an allied effort than most have traditionally understood. As a result, Ferenc Morton's Szasz's "British Scientists and the Manhattan Project" serves as a useful corrective to many earlier accounts that have all but buried any knowledge of the British role in the project.Beginning in December 1943 the British government sent to the remote New Mexico site of Los Alamos, where J. Robert Oppenheimer was presiding over a cadre of physicists and other scientists and technicians to design an atomic weapon, a small group that eventually numbered about 30 scientists to assist with the project. They worked long hours side-by-side with the Americans, witnessed the explosion at the Trinity site, and viewed the success with the same horror and amazement as their U.S. colleagues. Most of their names are unknown to all but a few specialists in the history of high energy physics, and the one that is not--Klaus Fuchs--is remembered only as an atomic spy for the Soviet Union. This short book does much to rescue the group from obscurity, as well as to set the record straight on Fuchs. It is an important addition to the literature of Los Alamos and the Manhattan Project.

Pomodori a grappolo is a set of three interconnected books by photographer and bookmaker John Gossage. Each book gathers images made in Northern Italy and Sardinia between 2009 and 2011, and each includes a short text by Marlene Klein. The written pieces-two stories and one epilogue-have been created in response to Gossage's pictures, and reflect the 30 years that Klein has spent living and working in Venice. An unexpected approach runs through all the details of the books, from the way elements repeat, or don't, to the choice of materials and color. Since these three books are each a different trim size but include photos that are reproduced at the exact same size, the collective project functions as a study of the way that ink on paper can inform perception. The resulting objects are classic Gossage-clever, unique and engrossing. A limited edition of the books, held together with magnets in a "disorderly" way, further explores these concepts.

Review It’s title roughly translating to “tomatoes in cluster,” this is a set of three books, each in a different trim size but with identical reproduction sizes of the images, shot in northern Italy and Sardinia. It’s an Art Project with caps ― reflecting Gossage’s penchant for painterly photos of everyday detritus, still-life vignettes, and abandoned but picturesque spaces, with the occasion human portrait thrown in for good measure. If you are a fan of Gossage you will like this work. If you didn't like 32 Inch ruler or some of his other newer works than I would suggest you stay away.

These three books of photographs taken in Italy are up to his usual standard. I had worried that his switching from B&W to color might change his vision and the impact of his photographs, but it hasn't worked out that way. I think this is now his 3rd or 4th color book, and I've enjoyed all of them. Highly recommended.
