From the Author ---------------------------------------- A BEHIND THE SCENES INTERVIEW ---------------------------------------- Dear prospective reader, Thanks for taking a minute to explore what you'll find inside the pages of The Couples Guide To Income Power and why you need to read it today. First though, let me take a moment and give a huge shout-out to my amazing wife and business partner - Cinnamon Miles. She makes everything I do a million times better. As I was working on this book we took a break and sat down at our local Red Robbin and discussed the project. Cinnamon hadn't read the book yet because it was still in bits and pieces, so here is how that conversation went: Cinnamon: The cover makes this look like a get rich quick book - how are you going to convince people it's not? Jason: I'm not sure - I guess in the description and author section on Kindle I can try to outline the major topics; salary negotiation strategies, career management, and the couples strategy for small business creation. Cinnamon: Books like this are so boring - how are you going to make sure it's not super dry and technical - and not boring? Jason: In my other books I couldn't really use humor very much because it just didn't seem like it would fit the topics. But in this book I tried to write in my own voice more and make people smile - if not laugh. Plus I start with stories and try to use them in each chapter. Hopefully people will enjoy it - and they'll learn some new things along the way too. Cinnamon: Do you make it sound like we're rich and don't work hard? Jason: No, but I do explain how I left the 9-5 world, and how small business ownership is the way to get much larger incomes than you ever can as an employee. I walk people through the steps involved in creating a safe, non-risky side business. Cinnamon: So how is this different than Craft Business Power? Jason: In Craft Business Power I do a really deep dive into setting up and running a small business - well actually - a small business if you're an artist or crafter. In this book I am writing about all of the pre-work that couples can do together before they start a business - so their new little baby business gets up and running in a stable, logical, and effective way. So it's focusing on the income side of the picture. Cinnamon: What's the most personal thing that you share in the book? Jason: I have a whole chapter about when I got fired. I don't mention any of my employers by name in the book, so there aren't any awkward details, but I do describe the process and our emotions. I describe the mess and drama of it all and try to use it as a warning to people - that they can't really ever count on a 9-5 salary with certainty. Cinnamon: So what do you want people to get out of it after reading it? Jason: The first thing is better salary management skills. People just don't know how to get more salary and tons of people are stuck that don't need to be. Then I want to encourage couples to work together more toward a shared goal - so that instead of using a dual income approach - they work together to create a freedom business over time. Cinnamon: Don't you think people are going to be turned off by the idea of starting a business? Jason: Maybe, but I sort of figure the people who are really passionate about increasing their income will at least listen to my argument - and our method - and hopefully it'll plant a seed that they can cultivate. It took us 10 years to start our business after hearing about Joe and the driving school - so when the timing is right - people will dig deeper. Waiter: More fries guys? Jason: Sure! Cinnamon: No - we're done - we're ready for the check. Jason: Good call.

He has some very realistic views on how to start to build your business/home business and get past your fear of moving away from the unrealstic job you go to each day LOL. He's not promoting you to leave your job, but gives you his path of being able to finally shake his 9-5 behind. Very encouraging. Our family has been on the other side of the hatchet man a couple of times (my husband is in printing, and it's just a dying breed with the digital age). I'm not one to read "how to market" or "how to build" books, but I have found that I do enjoy reading Jason's books, and the grounded views/real life experiences he shares in the process of building his. He doesn't promote you to jump off the cliff in to a business, but to build slowly, and keep it solid...put back in to the business and grow until you can depend on the business for your combined income and build your retirement on your terms. This is my second to read, and they are very realistic, educational and entertaining all at the same time.
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Another wonderful book by Jason By Lyndsay Another wonderful book by Jason! This book was very thought provoking for me. It made me realize that it IS possible to break free from the average work life and achieve what you really want from your life and your work. I love the personal stories in the book, as I can relate to many of them (and would love to someday relate to the stories in the later chapters). Don't mistake this book for a get rich quick scheme. Jason emphasizes hard work in this book and the fact that it will take time and determination to achieve your goals. With that being said, it gives a great outline for how to achieve those goals, and is very practical for someone who has or wants to start a business. You will find this book easy to read and want to read it again and again for it's vast wealth of information!

By Camelot This book started out with great advice on how to become the best employee possible in order to earn the most money possible ... but as an employee. Then it took a surprise shift and showed how the best incomes are to be made working for yourself, and how to transition from employee to employer seamlessly. Fabulous book. One of the best on the market right now for this topic. I couldn't stop reading, and we are on track to follow his Income Power plan. Highly recommended.
