Callahan Sheres and Larson's book is an important resource that can help ensure the success of coaching engagements from the perspectives of the client being coached, the organization sponsoring the coaching, and the coach. It is easy to use - full of quick tips and real world stories pulled from the authors' extensive coaching experience. As a leadership coach I find that different clients benefit more or less from the coaching engagement, based on their understanding of how to think about development and how to make the best use of the oopportunity. Organizations make significant investments in hiring qualified coaches and dedicating leaders' time to the process, and this Coaching Companion helps the coach make sure that investment pays off by educating the leader to come to each session prepared to get the most out of it. We know that most of the change that happens for clients in a coaching engagement comes from their practice and insights between sessions, and this book does a great job of guiding the client through those in-between times as well. I appreciate that it fits needs from basic to advanced, and has variety to meet each client where s/he is in the development process. It doesn't need to be a cover-to-cover read -- the authors have laid it out to easily flip to a couple of pages that deliver guidance for wherever each client might be stuck, or missing opportunities to accelerate growth.I highly recommend the book to coaches who want to provide additional between-session support, line and HR leaders who invest in coaching and want to see that investment result in real change in the organization, clients who want to see the most impact from their own coaching experience, and even individuals who aren't working with a coach but want great tips for self-directed development in their daily lives. -Jodi Callahan, Ph.D., ACC

For trust to grow and feedback to flow - in both directions - both parties to the experience must be fully engaged. This book does, better than any I've seen, give simple, clear and powerful tools to the person being coached that empower them to more fully participate in creating a quality dynamic and experiencing a powerful outcome. I highly recommend this book. If you're being coached - get it. If you are a coach, regardless of your experience, get it. If you are a leader or sponsor of coaching in an organization - get a bunch of them. It's that good.Richard Godfrey
