In an engaging and approachable book, Andrew Stotz has simplified the investing process for people who don't have the technical know-how, or who are not that interested in stocks and bonds. The book contains some valuable nuggets of practical wisdom, including: why a long-term, unflappable temperament is to an investor's advantage; how to write down one's plan for retirement spending levels; how to keep investing costs, fees and taxes low; why are diversification and infrequent trading important; and, how to change allocations as one ages. Anyone who is just getting started, or who needs an excellent way to teach children, teenagers and adults how to save, invest and retire will have their questions answered by this book.

The topic has always interested me and this caused me to start saving from my very first pay check more than 40 years ago. I have invested in equities in some form for the past 25 years.The book is almost the story of what I have done in an attempt to accumulate sufficient funds for a secure retirement – which I now have. The only difference is that I had to learn many of these lessons, such as “look out for the fees on the investment products”, all on my own. I got my basics from George Samuel Clason’s “The Richest Man in Babylon” which served me well.Upon finishing “You Won’t Get Rich in the Stock Market..” I was left with a feeling of needing to tell people that this concept does work and I am living proof of it. As most of us do not start up a Microsoft, Apple or Facebook, we need to have a plan to accumulate wealth systematically and this book provides the blueprint in simple easy to understand and follow steps.When I retire, in the next few months, I intend to volunteer to teach secondary school pupils about money and will use this book as an aid; after all, it worked for me.If you are serious about accumulating wealth, reading this book is a must.

Being somewhere in between those extremes I still found this an extremely useful and enjoyable book By AJS Whether you're just starting out as an investor or a seasoned professional it does no harm to be reminded of the basics and Stotz' book accomplishes this extremely well. Being somewhere in between those extremes I still found this an extremely useful and enjoyable book.It also provides much more than the basics. Detailed yet simple and concise explanations of investments and terminology, applied examples and not least a firm grounding, alluded to in the title, that you more than likely won't get rich overnight by playing the stock market.I only wish I had read and heeded the advice in this book when I was 18. Highly recommended.
