Science fiction from 1961 By Charles van Buren Cole, who served in WW2, wrote science fiction in the 1950's & 60's while serving in the army & later teaching. The Weakling was published as the cover story in Analog Science Fact and Fiction magazine in the February 1961 issue. This is one of those stories which does not establish a background. It simply plunges into the action leaving it to the reader to catch up and understand the world in which the story is set. I do not like reviews which reveal too much of the story, but as there is no description at all for the free kindle e-book, I will say that this is a world controlled by those with psionic power. According to the cover page, the original was illustrated, but, true to form for free kindle editions, there are no illustrations in the kindle e-book released March 30, 2011. The illustrations do appear in the Project Gutenberg edition and give more clues about the story. The very nice black and white drawings depict dinosaur-like creatures among other things.
