Someone who is ready for the zombie apocalypse but not ready for the math test tomorrow.The world out there can be a scary place (zombies notwithstanding). For the parents of a student about to graduate, there’s not just the fear that their child may struggle to find gainful and meaningful employment; there’s the greater angst that s/he will never make it past the front door and the comforts of the kitchen refrigerator.As with any milestone life passage, what happens once the diplomas have been handed out, the party hoopla dies down and the confetti has been swept up? For as much emphasis as teachers place on memorizing elements in the periodic table, conjugating Spanish verbs and acing the SATs, I can’t recall a single class I took in high school that taught me how to balance a checkbook, negotiate (and understand!) contracts, choose the right clothes for a job interview, apply for credit cards, stock a pantry with basics, set priorities, and know what to do when the oil light comes on. Bought not really sure what I was getting but loved the cover and had a list of graduates that would enjoy getting an ebook. So glad I did! It's excellent and the perfect gift for my graduating nieces (2 from high school, 1 from college) and I'm keeping one for myself. I started highlighting and found that I was highlighting everything. Well written and very engaging. A must for the college graduate, but also for the high school student as well as those of us already out there. Loved it! It's a great guide, a great resource, and a great gift (and their parents will thank me cause it's got cute reminders in it about thanking your parents and being considerate of what they're going through as their child graduates).

By Amazon Customer Great graduation gift for either high school or college graduate (along with those suggestions on page 19!) Good financial advice and emphasis on long-term goals. Outside the hospitality industry, I’m not sure how many grads need to worry about which fork to use, but most of the advice is pretty useful and funny enough to keep their interest. (“…a volunteer month building a school in Africa with my fraternity” Seriously??) Forgot to mention in the interview section that the grad is also interviewing the potential employer (as in, don’t take just any job.) Loved the Will Ferrell quote! Get the hard copy so the grad can have a constant reminder on his/her desk (or under the bed) and maybe takes notes.

I am not much of a reader, it's something I am trying to do more of. This book made it easy for me to start and finish. I am currently in a sales position and I found that the principles in this book are helping be to be more successful by understanding what it takes to be successful. Understanding how important "Influence" is during a sale is giving me more confidence during a pitch. I would recommend this book to anyone in our outside of the sales world. Great Book!

While I am a little bored of reading self help and business books, this one had a different spin on it. Brad is very good at conveying his message and having personally heard him coach his writing is just as eloquent. The book is an easy read and very concise yet thorough and to the point. The examples he uses throughout the book are personable and easy to relate to. He did inspire me to really go after my goal of running an ultra race to influence those around me

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Surprising, revealing and convincing By Guilherme Bahia I read this short and original book in one Saturday afternoon. It really succeeds in being accessible to the common reader without superficialities or clichés. In fact, one important point of the book, as suggested in the title, is the deconstruction of the romantic myth of the entrepreneur as an empty-handed guy who shows up with a great idea and becomes a self-made man. Well, the book says, these people do exist, but they are much rather the exception than the rule.The upsidedown approach offered by Newton Campos sees The Idea (in capital letters to emphasize the over importance usually attached to it) as a secondary input for the entrepreneurial process, or perhaps a byproduct of the most important one: the resources. The usual path of first having an idea and then going after the resources for implementing it is thus reversed: it is the ability to mobilize resources that may lead to a good idea (this reminded me of a maxim from Liddell Hart, an important thinker on military strategy: adjust your ends to your means, not your means to your ends).By “resources” the author doesn’t mean only the financial ones. Knowledge, social contacts, everything that can be put into use for a business purpose counts, even political connections. Did I say political connections? Yes, I did. Campos has no problems with discussing the dark side of the Force.One consequence of the prevalence of resources over ideas is that rich and well connected people are the most likely to succeed in their ventures – and the author doesn’t hide behind euphemisms on this: “by far, most successful entrepreneurs around the world are experienced professionals and come from upper or upper-middle social classes”. Or: “often a small group of families control entire industries and many of the entrepreneurial opportunities within those industries”.But don’t get me wrong. The book is not an essay from a business professor that suddenly turned anti-capitalist. Instead, it is an honest work from a researcher that deeply believes in the transforming power of entrepreneurs, but who doesn’t let his passion turn him blind. The last chapter discusses the role of entrepreneurs in Capitalism in well researched pages with references to Max Weber, Joseph Schumpeter and many other authors.As an irreverent stylistic resource, the upsidedown approach is taken to the chapters' numbers, so that we begin in chapter 4 and end in chapter 1. Also, at the beginning of each chapter we find the estimated reading time, perhaps as a good-humored reminder of Benjamin Franklin’s famous “time is money”, quoted in the book.(Disclosure: I’ve known the author personally for more than ten years.)

My first successful venture happened when, by chance and without being conscious, I used the approach suggested by Prof Campos. A must-read for all (wannabe) entrepreneurs and business people.

The format of the book is concise and engaging, with practical real-world examples throughout.Technical and creative people are often maligned and misunderstood in the workplace by leadership and other non-technical peers. In a refreshing approach, this book completely avoids typecasting - it explains the interpersonal dynamics of the technical/creative employee, and then asks leaders to own and be accountable for their part of the relationship dynamic. It articulates an empathetic, understanding way of approaching technical employees with the goal of bringing out the best in them.“Leading Technical Teams” also excels at meshing topics that appear contradictory on their own, but when taken as a whole, gel together into a cohesive whole. Excellent Reference Material By CL Cohen Whether you work with a technical team outside of your company, on a technical team within your company or manage a technical team, this is an excellent reference on the types of folks you will encounter. If there is one piece of information you are able to draw from this book, it's another tool you can add to your work tool box. I work on a technical team, so I found the book very helpful with the types of people I work with on a daily basis. Not only on my team, but the resources that I work with in the field.

By fromthegreyfort As an avid Adam Lambert fan who has followed his career devotedly from the time he was on American Idol, I wasn't expecting to learn anything new from this book. But I assumed I could enjoy the read anyway. I didn't. Mr. Daniels did no real legwork for this book. He did none of his own interviews with friends, family, former co-workers, the sort of interviews and research one would expect of a biographer. Instead he relied completely on existing articles and interviews found on the internet. Having used archives of existing materials might have been forgivable but it is so poorly organized that it seems no effort was put into the timeline of Adam's life and career. Events and stories jump back and forth so someone not already familiar with the subject would easily become quite confused. There were also occasional factual errors regarding details that are widely known and could have been easily checked. I don't think I'm a particularly good writer but I am 100% certain that I could have spent a couple of months on the internet and written a far better book than this one. I can't think of a single reason to recommend that anyone else spend their time reading it.

Within the first few pages I noted many inaccuracies in the information that was provided. A lot of information was taken from interviews that can be found in the internet. I noticed quite a few fillers that do nothing other than up the page count. By fillers I mean listing every song off an album…totally unnecessary. Errors in grammar prove there was no proof-reading involved. So glad I decided in the end to go with the $5 kindle version because that's all it's worth. Just another person capitalizing on Adam's fame.

The text is jumping all around, which makes it difficult to read. Even worse, there are clear erros in the text with the timeline of events, giving the reader wrong information. If you want to have correct information about Adam Lambert, I highly recomment some other source - do not buy this book.

Es una alternativa interesante para que enfoques tus campañas de venta de una manera distinta. Conseguirás buenas y novedosas técnicas de ventas. Lo que no me gustó mucho fue cómo se ven las páginas. No puedes ajustar ni el tipo ni tamaño de letra. Por lo que te recomiendo leerlo en una pantalla de 7" a más. Fuera de ésto, el libro es recomendable y sabrás muchas cosas que aún desconocías.

It is the secret to his craft, in fact, I studied this book and tried to understand his thinking process to understand the KABUKI series better. Maybe I am a mad fangirl, but this is the most authentic and honest work of the artist. I highly recommend collecting this. This book is like Da Vinci Journal. You can't collect Da Vinci paintings without having a copy of his journal as well. Highly recommended graphic art collection (without the price tag of an expensive art piece).

I did not know that bartending is an art that requires so many skills just to satisfy the patrons who visit the bar. I agree to Ken Bagley that to master bartending, doing it is a different thing than just knowing it. I finally know that bartending is not just slinging and mixing drinks but also an art to garnish drinks.

By Jorge Hernandez The book has a bunch of grammar errors and it makes bartending sound scary after watching instructional videos and reading other books I felt more encouraged to pursue it. I don't recommend this book and if you buy it skip the 1st chapter dealing with personality and traits you need. Its intimidating and really worthless all it does is lower your confidence.

People like reading about human foibles in barracks and boardrooms. The first part is historical and biographical and the second part is philosophical. There are few books written by former SAS officers on history, war, adventure, family and business. In the Judeo-Christian tradition the snake is an evil idea, a sneak, a liar, one hundred percent bad but in China a Taipan is literally top class or big shot used for a senior business executive or entrepreneur. In my case Taipan was my clandestine guerrilla warfare name. Up until now few people knew this. When I first started writing about 15 years ago the memoirs were called Feral Major. The Military Secretary called me this when I was exiled in the Pilbara, and he wanted to know whether I still wore shoes to work. After some introspection I changed the title to Pushing the Boundaries based upon my ability to extend the rule books. Then for a long while it was called Instinct for Dissent, largely due to my ability to disobey lawful commands and survive the prospects of courts martials. Then came a light bulb moment, while prospering after 15 years in the bastardry of business and Screw-You University!
