The room was strange as the man, himself, who dwelt there. It seemed, in a way, the outward expression of his inner personality. He had ordered it built from his own plans, to please a whim of his restless mind, on top of the gigantic skyscraper that formed part of his properties. Adair This a classic novel of adventure reflecting the tangled milieu of the Middle East just after World War I. It is a typical flying adventure story reflecting the enthusiasm for air travel and constantly improving technology of that period. The super aircraft of the Flying Legion, The Eagle of the Sky, comes, in effect, from the covers of Science and Mechanics of that period, possibly painted by Frank R. Paul. The gadgetry is typical of science fiction before the term was invented. If you like first rate derring do, cliff hanging situations, I believe this was a serial in the Munsey magazines, heroic characters fighting down to the last ditch against impossible odds, this is it!

But that's from my perspective, here in 2014, I'll bet that in 1920, when it was published, it was a rollicking adventure story, extrapolating on developments in culture and science. Don't read it for the story, read it for the historical perspective you'll gain. And laugh at the misogyny that magically goes away in the end.
