About the Author Nicole B. Mason is a business operations strategist, former General Counsel to a technology company, and contributing author to the best-selling book, Spirit of Success. Engaged high performing employees are nurtured and not found or bought By Anuj "Enhance Employee Engagement" succintly captures the intergenerational shifts happening at the workplace today and outlines systems to create a high performing company that will last. The main premise of the book is that engaged high performing employees are nurtured and not found. The importance of employee engagement cannot be overstated: it impacts everything and getting it right can dramatically increase the discretionary effort that employees put in instead of just doing the minimum necessary to keep their jobs. One of my favorite quotes from this book is: "employee engagement is marketing to the people who are responsible for executing on your strategies and accomplishing your organization’s goals." Like most managers, I know the importance of employee engagement but it often gets lost in the day to day execution of goals. With her ENHANCE performance model, Nicole lays out a helpful blueprint I can use to help me fine tune my team's "performance engine" and create an A-team. Overall it is an eclectic read with each chapter dealing with a different issue with useful information and tips for managing people: from getting and working well with a more diverse workplace, to ways to institute change, to ways of hiring and retaining the right top talent by giving them a sense of ownership and more work flexibility e.g. remote work to improve productivity. In this latter statement Nicole goes against the conventional wisdom which tends to focus on old school face time. One important takeaway for me was the distinction between the push type engagement and the pull type engagement. I have noticed that my own company does a good job in push type engagement i.e., company provided benefits and work arrangements, but lacks in the pull type engagement i.e., mentoring and more employee driven initiatives. This is something I plan to focus on.

By kateandjoe Having been in management for over 30 years, I found the concepts presented in this book to be both extremely relevant and very enlightening. The writing is excellent as it invites you to keep reading by flowing well and being clear and concise.
