I liked the book mainly because it was concise and clear, as well as the ideas it presented were resourceful. I really liked the Quiz, something you don't see very often in books like these, and when it comes to my "Employee Mindset", I can proudly say it is finally gone. While I still have a day time job, I have been really inspired so I started my own online business on the side. Mixed feelings about this book By Ann Cooper On one hand, this book is full of poetic images and truly offers the reader a sense of place and history; on the other hand, it sometimes tumbles over the top into self-conscious preciousness. This over writing spoiled the effect for me, and I started to cringe at every instance of the word "numinous." A minor quibble-the places are probably not familiar to many readers and I resorted to Google to place myself geographically as the author darted here and there across the globe.

About the Author ROBERT BLOCH (1917-1994) was a horror, suspense, and science fiction writer and screenwriter, best known for the novel "Psycho". Altogether, he wrote over 220 stories collected in over two dozen collections, two dozen novels, screenplays for a dozen movies, and three "Star Trek" episodes. His many awards include the Nebula, Hugo, and World Fantasy awards (including Lifetime Achievement), and five Bram Stoker Awards. His autobiography, Once around the Bloch, was his last major work.

Science Fiction by Robert Bloch By Elliot Robert Bloch, the author of the novel "Psycho," is most famous for his horror fiction, but he also wrote some science fiction. This 1958 story originally appeared in Amazing as a "complete in one issue novel" (which means it would be around 100 pages of print). It starts as a well-written, if rather conventional, dystopia about a world grown overcrowded as a result of the population explosion. But after the first chapter, Bloch adds a few unusual twists and turns to his plot to keep the reader off-balance. Well done.

For a book this old there are parts of it that are surprisingly prescient.The world is becoming extremely crowded. Humans are packed into highrises and restricted to only one room if they are single. Food and water availability is slowly waning and soon there will not be any way to keep supporting the ever increasing population of mankind. What happens then?Robet Bloch explores this question by posing a solution. Is it the correct solution?Will it actually work? You will have to read this book to find out.This story was imaginative. There are dates in the book that we have now surpassed, which makes the book seem a bit dated. However, the points the author is making are still relevant and will need to be addressed for mankind to survive.

One of the early authors of psychological thrillers and horror, Stephen King gives credit to both Bloch and Richard Matheson for inspiring him to write. With good reason. As the words flow from his brain to the page the reader sees exactly what Bloch was imagining.In This Crowded Earth Bloch foresees a future Earth that is overpopulated. War and disease are a thing of the past. This makes for very crowded cities - what do we do now? While this might feel dated to some, please push that aside. Read one of the masters.

Any "book" (see chapter two pages 7-11) that consists of half a page of text (p. 7) a full page chart (p. 8, 9) and a blank page (p. 10) should be questioned as to whether it should actually even really be considered a book. This whole book could have easily been written in 10-20 pages. This book is like a research paper that has been stretched out to be "book length".

It's seven chapters long, but each chapter feels incredibly short. I'd say each of them took less than ten minutes to read. There are tips and all of that, but everything is brief. The entire book could probably be read easily in one sitting, although I didn't do that.Overall, I just considered this book okay. There was no information or ideas in it that I didn't already know, and I imagine it is stuff most authors would know as well. There were prompts, questions, etc., but I don't imagine they are things I will ever go back to. I do feel like all of this information could easily be found through blog posts, and nothing about the book made it feel like it warranted being paid for when you can get the same information for free online. If it had been longer with more advice, maybe I would feel differently.On top of the briefness of the book, there were tons of quotes by well known authors. While those can be enjoyable, it only served to make the actual information in the book feel like less.It's definitely not a bad book. There is good advice in there. It's just not anything new or exciting, and it's also not old information said in a new and interesting way. If people were to ask me for some ideas for dealing with writer's block, I think there are other places I would rather point them to, but if they already had this book anyway, it would be possible it would provide them with some help.I received this book for free from Story Cartel in exchange for an honest review.

By Just My Opinion The book is well-written, but I never found anything inside that wasn't available by searching the internet. I agree that it is brief, but I felt that was a plus - the authors said what they needed to say and then stopped (I personally think this is a positive with non-fiction).The book encourages you to do a lot of self-examining and find what will help you. I think perhaps it was trying to cover too big an audience: fiction, non-fiction, copy, free lance, college paper, and work writing is glanced over. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, but I don't think I would tell a friend to buy it... I'd rather sit down over coffee and talk about it with them.I did find the section encouraging you to establish habits to help get past Block, but they could have really dove into that. The "find-what-works-for-you" is true, but I think most people struggling with Block would rather have a pretty long list of habits they could try (establishing habit is no longer taught in our education system). There were a great many writing exercises to try, and I'm sure that really helps some writers (I personally hate spending my precious writing time on them though!)

If you were looking to this work for the “Increase Productivity and Maximizing Your Word Count” information, it is very light in that area. I think the cover art misled me a little. The Write Life is evidently the series title, not this particular book’s title. The content is all about writer’s block. Certainly, someone looking for a cure for their writing career stall out would be glad when this work gets them results.I did appreciate that the table of contents was a meaningful list of what was contained in the book. Not just a simple “Chapter 1, Chapter 2” as some books have. Tips and quotes from other authors were in a larger size type. I felt this changing of font size and spacing around links and questions gave the work a bit of an inconsistent look.There are several mentions of other sites as resources. The authors have also included lots of questions, exercises, and writing prompts and such to get you doing something to get yourself out of writer’s block.I was provided a copy to read and write an honest review

Solid coverage of the 21st century's first fifteen years of indie horror By Kel Stanford Stuart Willis's book is close to a 21st century version of something the late Chas Balun might have written: it reviews close to fifteen years of independently made horror films that are not being written about beyond specialist blogs and horror-specific websites. It's a welcome addition to any horror film lover's library, and an excellent bedside reference you can leaf through at any time.Willis, perhaps moreso than Balun, is not impressed by films purely focused on gore and dismemberment. He understands that, without exception, the script always counts, and emphasizes intelligence as a prerequsite for good filmmaking. As a pretty keen horror fan myself, I found very few titles absent from his survey, so it was encouraging to see stuff such as THE LIFE AND DEATH OF A PORNO GANG, SERBIAN FILM, DEAD END, LESSON OF THE EVIL, AMER, YOU'RE NEXT, the AUGUST UNDERGROUND film, and THE BUNNY GAME included.Arthouse gems such as IRREVERSIBLE, EX DRUMMER, MOEBIUS, INNOCENCE, and IN MY SKIN get a thorough critical autopsy also.The 300+ titles are all listed alphabetically, and there's a helpful appendix, too.For those new to the horror game, this is a fantastic launching pad to a fascinating journey, and I surely envy you your first experiences with these flicks. Even for the jaded, there are plenty of new discoveries here as well as reviews that sound warnings on films that may kill you with boredom.For the adventurous and plain curious, a solid recommendation.

No page numbers in the rest of the book, nor a header of footer indicating where in the book one may be. It's usually easy to find where in the alphabet one is, since reviews aren't all that long, but still.And then there's an index that also has no page numbers...Other layout errors as well, name of a movie is the last line on one page, text about it on the next page. Lazy errors, thus one star taken off for that.The few Illustrations are largely movie posters or lobby cards or disc covers, all printed a bit dark in b&w. Somewhat pointless to include. Even back in the day fanzines had photos of the juicy scenes and other things, not just the official promo stuff everybody knows already. Writing is so so, more like a fanzine. Not much background info is given, little analysis and too opinionated. The author doesn't seem to like most of the movies reviewed.I collect books on horror films, so I don't mind having this one, but the bad editing and lack of (well printed) good illustrations, combined with the very conversational and opinionated style might put some off. I'd not rate this one a must have.It does list films you won't find in most main stream books, so if you're looking for that and can look past the bad editing and layout, and are used to fanzine or online forum reviews that are more like a friend saying what they think than a well thought out article, you'll still enjoy this to some extent. Otherwise I'd suggest to stick to online sources or your own friends.This says it's Vol 1 (still goes from A-Z though...) and if there ever is a Vol 2 I'll most likely still pick it up, but with lowered expectations. But at least I'd expect page numbers in the contents and index. Oh, and on each page of course.

8 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Conan Doyle's Best By A Customer It's not often noted that Conan Doyle was one of the funniest writers ever. Many readers seem to miss the humor, if the largely clueless online reviews of "The Lost World" are any guide. Get that book first; it's Conan Doyle's masterpiece and one of the great books of the 20th century. Then try to get a copy of this one (it's out of print), containing three other stories about Professor Challenger. The title story, written at the end of the author's life, shows him at the height of his powers, right down to the magnificent final sentence.

By The Reviewer Formerly Known as Kurt Johnson When Peerless Jones is contacted by the eccentric Professor Challenger, he has little idea what he is in for. Professor Challenger loves throwing conventional scientific wisdom on its ear, and he is about to do so again. It seems that he has come to the conclusion that beneath the ground we see around us, the Earth we ride through space on is actually a creature of gargantuan proportions! Ridiculous you say? Well, the good Professor has a drill in place, and he intends to prove his case!Professor George Edward Challenger is the lesser known creation of Sherlock Holmes' creator, Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930). Unlike the cool and calculating Homes, Challenger is irascible, domineering and extremely outspoken. In short, he is a lot of fun to read. However, unlike Holmes, Professor Challenger never caught on and as such only five Challenger stories were ever written, and this was the last one (written in 1928).Although somewhat dated, I found this story to be well written and quite exciting. It reflects a world that is now gone, but is quite interesting to read about. If you like adventure stories, then you will like this one. Read this book, and learn about A.C. Doyle's other hero!

Super Reader By average Professor Challenger, he of the bombastic and aggressive disposition has gotten himself involved with a spot of digging.In a big way, the whole drilling into the earth scenario. He invites the usual lads down to come and have a look, and they are a little disturbed.This is nothing to what happens the second time when a big even is made of inviting a whole lot of people to have a look at their project. Something down there has more than a bit to say about the whole thing.

By Huggy With the number of books that cover the subject matter to include the content of this book, it is easy to be jaded in writing an honest review.That said, the composition and content matter of this specific book covers ground in much the same way as others.HOWEVER, each author brings to the table (book?) their unique views on the topic, and this is especially beneficial to the reader.I mention this because each author, this one included, looks at the topic in a manner that sees additional "angles" which may have been inadvertently overlooked by previous writers.This is a GOOD thing, IMO, because it has s written from a different perspective available by only THIS author and based on their own, unique, experiences.That said, I recommend the reader absorb the material, integrate into your OWN situation and have a MUCH information about the topic which you might not have considered in your situation.

It was really well written and offers excellent advice for anyone starting out with Forex. His philosophy and methodology with regards to how to trade are spot on. David outlines two trading strategies (1) Zone Play and (2) REMA that are easy to implement and as well as effective.

His power converter by means of hydrogen-helium conversion using H²O drawn out of the surrounding air. The power created is cheap and abundant. United States Power Utilities want it, but why? This is a well written story not as fun as some of his others but a good read.
