Put this on your reading list - By Dave Garrett Many of the most meaningful, visible projects in the world involve Business Process Improvement (BPI). These are the efforts that change the way businesses operate and aspire to create serious competitive advantage. The lucky project managers that run these take a huge risk - this type of project can make or break their career. Often, they go in without a playbook. In this book, Gina and Yusuf offer a clear approach to managing BPI projects, with a focus on the soft skills that most PMs have difficulty developing. They walk you through, stage by stage, how to consistently engage with stakeholders in a way that not only makes them feel good about the effort, but turns each relationship into a success tool for the project. The author's guidance isn't just a "now do this", "then do that". They actually help the reader anticipate common challenges before they happen and head them off before they occur. Finally they offer you a number of questionnaires, tools and templates that will help you along the way. This book will help you do big, important things. If you are facing a BPI challenge its a great investment in your future.

Covering the steps to implement a 'transition', the book tackles the difficult topic of managing a project whose outcome is the implementation of a new process. To do that, the authors use a rich mixture of text, tables, figures, and real examples from their experience and consulting practice which makes for easy reading and provides a book which you can keep at the ready for reference later. After reading the book, I realized that it could really benefit any PM because of its focus on solid project management basics. However, if you are indeed working on a BPI project, it has the focus on that area that is so critical to transitions, including earning the mindset of your stakeholders - so important if you want to make a process change that sticks.Bottom line: a book you should read and keep handy if you manage projects!

By GB In my many years of being in roles as a student, an Engineer, a Project Manager, a consultant, or an Executive Board member, I always find the best way to improve a team or company is to review how current processes are constituted, but more importantly how these processes can be improved. Quite often, during this review, I find hesitation and frustration from the users. The process users do not like to be questioned and especially do not want change. In “Best Practices for Managing BPI Projects”, Gina Abudi and Yusuf Abudi take the review and management of any BPI Project and place it in an easy-to-understand six-step approach. The Chapters are easily laid out and understandable for the first timer, but in-depth enough for the BPI project experts who may just want to get organized in their approach. The authors have included examples as well as templates and examples to make the process go smoother.
