A picture is worth a thousand words By The Mobile Trekker (B Stoops) There is some good, basic info here for the novice photographer, and the book's brevity certainly makes it less intimidating, which is a good thing for those just starting out. The insights are understandable, helpful and not technical. I applaud the book for all of these reasons. However, I find that subjects like photography are best taught with... photography. Had the book provided images that illustrate the principles being taught - use of different types of filters, rule of thirds, horizon lines, leading lines,etc. - it would have been far more helpful and interesting. If you're a novice and the book is free, it is worth a quick read. Otherwise invest your time & money in a resource that will teach by example. The best help I've found is seeing amazing (landscape) photos and learning from them along with commentary on lighting, time of day, composition, camera settings, lens choice, etc. (critiques of not so amazing shots and how they could have been better is also helpful).
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Good Beginner's Book By Daryl Lee Spiewak Like portrait and other styles of photography, good landscape photographs follows a certain set of rules. The author does a good job briefly describing the rules and offers some useful suggestions too. What is lacking is example photos accompanying the text so beginners can more easily understand the concepts presented. Even so, this is a good book for beginners to read and refer to when learning landscape photography.

I’m setting up a clothing brand with some friends and we don’t have much of a budget. We want to have landscape photos as the background for our site (including a model in the pic). I need to be able to produce photoshoots myself that look nice without having to go overboard on buying expensive equipment etc. This book literally guides you through every stage of the process. From buying beginner’s equipment to how to actually take shots with a step by step guide - and also looks at beginner mistakes. It really is an excellent book that I got great value from. I’d recommend it to anyone starting off.
