Millennials are walking into a very different business environment than the one in which our parents worked. We can't rely on the stability of a linear career path within a single company. To be successful in this new world, we must take a proactive approach to managing our careers. Not Your Parents' Workplace shares an intimate account of the highs and lows I've experienced as a young professional, including what it was like to go through the largest bankruptcy in history and how I bounced back from getting laid off. But more importantly, it teaches insightful lessons that will help you find your dream job and be successful in your career. These lessons include:
- How to network and build strong professional relationships (Chapters 1, 5, 10)
- How to prepare for interviews, including how to tell your "story" (Chapter 2)
- How to make the most of your internship (Chapters 2, 3)
- Deciding whether to quit your job (Chapter 6)
- Whether you should pursue an MBA or other graduate programs (Chapter 9)
- How to develop a professional competitive advantage (Chapter 9)

By Benjamin Hatch As a student and a young professional, I found this book to be both insightful and enjoyable to read. Nathan's journey provides real life examples of what millennials face in the new workplace. This is the first career management book I've read that was written by a millennial for millennials. It's refreshing to get a new perspective.Nathan gives practical advice alongside of war stories from his career. I highly recommend this book to undergraduates, graduate students, and all young professionals who are lost in a confusing and constantly changing workplace.

Helpful even if you aren't in business By Cassie Wasn't sure what to expect since the author's career path is business related and mine is marine science. However, i was pleasantly surprised how relatable the content was and i finished the book with several ideas about how to set myself up for the next steps in my career.

Your Parents’ Workplace is a well written book with easy to understand strategies to start By Mark, CA Not Your Parents’ Workplace is a well written book with easy to understand strategies to start, develop and reinvent a career. My first thought when I read the title of the book was this is something my kids would benefit in reading. I quickly realized that this book has great common sense strategies for anyone at any stage in their career. It comes down to being prepared. Nathan’s ability to write made me feel a part of his journey, then relate it to situations I have been through in my career, and how I could have handled them better. His summary “Lessons” at the end of each chapter makes this book easy to do a quick review for pointers. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, because we never know when our work situation will change or new opportunities arise. Nathan strategies if implemented will help us prepare for those events.
