Remember the name… Or don’t, and do whatever you want we’re cool.I don’t really review many books these days but this kinda caught my eye and I agreed to take a look at it. I liked it a lot so I’m writing an overly long review with probably way to much rambling but sometimes a particular audience will allow me to ramble (a bit) and see it for the unarticulated enthusiasm it is. This book is a bit ‘different’ to put it mildly but it is something worth considering if you are well, looking for ‘different’.For me I can never speak highly enough of artists that believe in what they do - even to the point of considerable delusion. If the world sees the sky as blue but someone is artistically adamant it is red and wont shake from it - i find it admirable as self belief is something every negative comment tries to crack or take, and that unwavering belief is what has made the greatest art in all of its forms.Sadly to any negative souls hoping, Paul Roustan isn’t delusional - he’s just one very talented *expletives self censored* guy.If you read this your probably at least curious as to what this book is about. Some will gather round the fools like some sort of bumbling British detective or the like - scratching away at our chins with furrowed brows followed by pursed lips - body art and photography hey? … Well, whats all this then?… (say it in a British accent you will get my angle there)Body art is an interesting one as compared to many other art forms as it is essentially, entirely fleeting. The only mark of its existence is the photo or film used to preserve it - or for the intimate lucky few a memory. Therefore the preservation medium itself is almost as important and part of the way through Paul’s journey he realised this and started ‘rolling his own’ in artistic speak. The canvas on each piece is entirely unique and each piece i truly ‘one of a kind’ and then it is washed, never to be repeated with the beautiful photography the preserved moment. What you will find in this book is many years of his work with body art and the resulting photography, and its quite extraordinary. It isn’t a book of just ‘pretty' women painted and dolled up (although it is mostly women… and they are painted… so deal with that) there are people from all walks of life and although light on comment the insights provided are enough to give a sense of part of the reasoning or history of the picture. In that sense it really is perfectly presented as it gives you a sense of it beyond what you see but does not dwell on it verbose. I don't think anyone needs huge amount of detail here as it is entirely a visual medium but it almost routinely adds a second dimension to what is behind the picture. Sometimes the comments are factual, other times charmingly irreverent, but they absolutely add to the presentation of the work. Some of personal favourites includeCarver “My future axe girlfriend”Sylva “Night”Alison Little “Femme Fatale”Megan Harrah “Inner Demons”Amelia Houghton “Shadow”Megan Tamas “The Stinger”Livia & Naomi “Shes got the whole world in her hands”Lee “Ripple”Although I could probably list many many more it is about the art form as a collection, and his work as a collective. A few pieces i didn’t really care for but that is personal taste it isn’t an artists job to please - it is to express and in that he has done a most stellar job. My medium, ‘words’ doesn’t aptly describe his medium, as seeing it is essentially the only way to ‘describe’ it really if that makes sense.OK the physical book review. The book itself consists of a hard cover matted material and pages of the highest quality. It is a perfect coffee table book because it is immediately accessible and will wear the history of the inevitable coffee spill well. The photos are very detailed and all in very high quality in terms of page texture and print (often you will think you have two pages stuck but the pages are just thick!) For me the tutorials are not needed as it is not a pair of boots I am ever going to try and lace up, but it may be of interest to some his process and still works as a reading component to pass the time. There are no page numbers so finding the pics i like is impossible but again it was probably an artistic decision and that is the authors prerogative although if it reaches a second print something to consider.Paul doesn’t need me to sing his praises in the slightest, and frankly I could have written a much shorter review I was under no obligation nor agreement write anything specific. He has been doing this for (almost) ever and it is how he makes a living. What I can sing is that his book is fantastic and well worth looking at if you have interest in art or photography or just want something out of your comfort zone to inspire in you own artistic pursuits, you may just find something here. Put it on your coffee table or business area if the topic and content are appropriate and you will have sure fire conversation piece or time passer, at worst under the guise of ‘different’.Product provided for review - its just my opinion

I didn't really expect to receive such a big book so packed with amazing & inspiring images. The quality is stunning. There's so much to look at that I still haven't made it all the way through- I keep opening to random pages and just staring. It's hard to believe that it's not all smoke and mirrors (or Photoshop) because my mind can't fully comprehend the beauty on each page. This would be a great book to give to anyone interested in art or photography. Now I wish I'd gotten more than one!

I always thought, "What a shame his canvas is the human body and after he spends countless hours airbrushing amazing imagines, he snaps a few pictures and then the paint is washed off!" I am so lucky not only to be one of his canvas in this book but I own it and it is the most talked about book on my coffee table. The pages are lined with over 300 beautiful paintings and what a sight it is. Paul Roustan is a true artist. BUY THIS BOOK!!!!
