From bestselling biographer Sean Smith comes the fascinating and tumultuous true story behind Sir Tom Jones, the nation’s treasure, sage of The Voice and living music legend.

Celebrating his 75th birthday this year, Tom Jones’ life has been an unforgettable rollercoaster ride. From starting out in a little Welsh mining town where he married his sweetheart at just 16, who could have known that seven years later he would go on to become a major musical hit that would propel him to Bel Air? Through intimate interviews, Smith uncovers all this and more, including the years Tom spent as little more than a Vegas lounge singer, before being rediscovered in the late ‘80s and becoming a maestro on the music scene once again.

As revealing as it is entertaining, this is the definitive story of a great talent who is showing no signs of slowing down.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. wonderful insight into a very special man By sharon perry wonderful insight into a very special man. enjoyed the biographer's understanding and also the astrologer's educational horoscope at the ending. i have so much respect for this man after knowing he wasn't into drugs or mean-spirited ego trips, even tho his marriage wasn't perfect according to the norm. after 58 years of marriage, they only spent 10 years in actual togetherness because of his almost constant travel and entertaining in person. Most of his fortune came from personal appearances, not just residuals. his voice is just as strong as ever, even deeper and more rich at the age of 74. Hope his healthy life habits allow him many more years of happiness.

By Julie I enjoyed this book especially reading about all the other entertainers he met during his long show biz life. He was a bit of a wild child as far as women were concerned but his loyal wife stuck by him. An easy , fun read.

Tom Jones - Something of the Life By The Maestro An interesting easy read but not completely satisfying and I suppose that is always going to happen when you don't get to interview the man himself or his wife Linda. Their life together asked more questions than were answered. He seems to be her complete opposite yet to her he always came home, despite plenty of dalliances on the way and public exposure and humiliation including his fathering a child to another and keeping his distance. We get little jabs of meat and potatoes all along the life journey of Tommy Woodward who we know as Tom Jones. Learning about his early humble beginnings was the more interesting. Becoming a teenage father and husband which would have been difficult for any hormone charged male, doing some break and enters and finding his voice as a singer. A couple of typos jarred as did facts such as Leonard Cohen's song Tower of Song being wrongly referred to. I would have liked more depth in the pages. It reads as if the author did some joining the dots. Surely there is another book on Tom Jones, one with more investigation and perhaps less papering over flaws in his character. There is a story here but I don't think the author has done anything other than lightly touch it. Interpreting his Zodiac Star sign didn't exactly enhance the book in my eyes either. For me reading that brought the book down to the level of a pap weekly magazine.
