About the Author
Penny Hallett has more than 40 years’ experience in journalism, public relations, and marketing. She spent the majority of her career in the public sector, where she imagined and brought to life many national, regional, and local awareness-raising campaigns and events, several of which won prestigious industry awards.
She started fundraising when she was 10, writing a magazine and selling it to friends and classmates to raise money for disadvantaged children. The free sweet with each copy boosted sales enormously!
Penny is currently working as a volunteer with the St Michael’s Church Heart of the Community project. The project aims to raise £5.5 million to build a new church and community centre, restore the 14th century church, and refurbish the Old School Rooms at Stoke Gifford, South Gloucestershire, UK. All royalties from the sale of this book are being donated to the project.

Full of good ideas in an easy to read format By Glynis Baltic An easy to read book, full of bright ideas on how to raise funds, and good information about the things you need to know, such as how to make sure your event is safe and legal. Anyone stuck for ideas will be able to find something here, and enjoy the read at the same time.

It gives an abundance of ideas, not just the old chestnuts but some fresh ones that would appeal to the younger generation, e.g. being sponsored to give up using the phone for a day. It points out the importance of thinking through what you want to achieve and who you want to attract and is an invaluable check for the pitfalls that the inexperienced fundraiser may fall into, giving advice on licensing and food safety and stressing that you have to make your event safe and legal. The contact information for any questions not already answered is a final fail-safe. A good companion for anyone inspired to raise cash for a good cause.
